I just had LASIK surgery today!! I did it so that I would be ready for my solo trip in May. It's going to be awesome to hit Typhoon Lagoon and NOT have to worry about losing a contact!

I am actually thinking of skipping my day trip to Busch Gardans so I can do Blizzard Beach as well now! :yay::cheer2::yay::cheer2::yay:

I got LASIK in 2001. Best thing I ever did. Drop your eyes as often as they tell you. The worst pain was 4 hours after the procedure and lasted about 90 minutes. Drop your eyes as often as they tell you. My regular eye doctor had to search for the LASIK scars - drop your eyes as often as the tell you!

I was wondering what the heck you were talking about...Drop your eyes??? then I figured it out :)

I'm at over 12 hours since having it done and the only thing is it feels like I have itchy contacts in my eyes.. no pain at all. I had some irritation when the numbing eye drops wore off about 30 minutes after the procedure.

This is awesome! I ean see so amazingly well!!

I got LASIK in June 2008 and, for me too, it was the BEST thing hands down that I had ever done. I always wore glasses, never contacts, so it made things so much better, especially since I play volleyball at school, run, etc.--you're not going to believe it when you wake up day after day this next week and it only keeps getting better!

How did you all get past the fear of Lasik?

In all honesty, I didn't get past it. I made the mistake of watching the surgery for the person before me. Scared the carp outta me. BUT, I knew all the good things that would come of it and I gritted my teeth and did it. It is very scary and everyone saying it was nothing doesn't help. My doctor talked to me through the whole procedure and kept telling me how many seconds were left.

For me, once the flaps were made, the rest was cake. It was over before I knew it and I was amazed that I could see without any lenses right after the operation.

Some places will give you a valium right before the surgery to calm your nerves. I didn't take one and I really didn't need it.

I kept putting it off. I made it worse for myself by watching LASIK procedure videos. :scared1: BIG mistake. But finally last April (2010) I got the nerve up to finally get LASIK. My procedure was New York college of Ophthalmology. The post procedure discomfort was like a pair of bad /itchy contact lenses. The next morning I work up, no pain and everything was in focus. I still have occasional dry eye. My vision post surgery is 'only' 25/25, with a mild astigmatism that I did not have pre-surgery. But not having to rely on glasses or contacts to see 5 feet in front of me is a blessing. :cool1:
Just curious anyone else still feel like their surgery is still healing months after?
I have read online, some patients will still have some healing and or vision adjustment for several months after the procedure? Anyone have this experience? Has anyone had additional 'adjustments'?
Curious what was your vision previous / post LASIK?
I know 20/20 is not guaranteed.

LOL, my dh made me go!! hehe

I wore glasses since my pregnancies ( contacts prior), but after pregnancy I couldn't tolerate the contacts, anyway lasik was the best thing I ever did. I couldn't remember what it was like to go swimming and actually SEE!!!

my dh and kids came with me and they watched it being done to me on a video screen outside the treatment room, the kids thought it was the coolest thing since sliced bread, :rotfl:

I don't remember any pain, just the weird feeling when they did the flap.
anyway, I agree drop your eyes like they tell you!

I don't know the x/x pre-surgery, but I know my contact lenses were -5.0 left eye and -6.5 right eye. The day after my surgery, using both eyes, I was seeing mostly 20/20 and a few letters at 20/15. Right now, 3 days later, my left eye is perfect and my right eye is still a little blurry. I will probably end up 20/20 or better when the healing is complete.

I was -8.0 in my right eye and -8.5 in my left. My doctor was nervous - it was the highest correction he had ever done. He wasn't even sure he could get me to 20/20. I walked out at 20/15 in both eyes. I am now 20/20 in my left and 20/25 in my right.

I get the starburst things at night, so I wear glasses when driving at night. My close up vision has it's limits. But I would never, ever say I regretted it.

I'm now 41 (gasp!) and the doctor is warning me that in a few years I might need full time glasses, just because that is what happens as you age.

If I never need a lens replacement due to cataracts, I have to have no less then four doctors talk to each other so that the proper lens can be inserted. It's weird.

For those who haven't done it - you should.
For those who have - I'm glad all has gone well.

My advise - drop your eyes frequently. Drop your eyes frequently.

I'm getting Lasik tomorrow afternoon.... I am counting down the hours left wearing glasses to see everything (I've had them since I was ten and now I'm really really old! ;)) It is going to be interesting and yes I know I will probably need reading glasses but hey that's ok.

I still need reading glasses, but that's okay, there's nothing I can do about it. I needed them when I had contacts and I had to remove my glasses to read/see close up.

I have 5 pairs of cheaters and I have noticed that dim light makes it worse. I would rather deal with reading glasses sometimes than glasses or contacts 24/7.

The best cheaters I found were in Barnes & Noble. They fold down to the size of a zippo lighter and I can just keep them in the carrying case in my pocket.

They mentioned something about monovision, where they correct one eye for distance and one eye for near. I told the doctor I didn't want that as I thought that would give me a migraine.

Well - Had Lasik Last Thursday - The Novelty hasn't worn off. I was so blind without glasses that this is pretty cool. I need cheaters right and my eyes are still healing but so far, really cool. Saw tangled for a 2nd time - this time the only glasses were the 3d ones and it was the same experience. I've also found I have depth perception on the road at night which I didn't have with correction.

Congrats!!! :banana::banana::banana:

I do realize that preserving eyesight is not the time for bargain-hunting. I am still curious though. How much did Lasik cost you?

My Lasik was $3200. I had a 5% discount from my insurance. Also, I got the lifetime maintenance at any LASIK Plus. for $2600, I could have gone with the 18 month maintenance.

Most cost about 3,500.00. A little less than that - but they had several packages This was one of the more expensive ones that meet my needs.

Just had my one week post op today. The doctor said my eyes healed perfectly. I am seeing 20/20 in the left eye and 20/30 in the right. We'll see how they finally settle at the 3 month check up.

I knew the right eye was a little fuzzy, but when seeing with both eyes, it's not noticible at all.
