Yesterday we officially joined the ranks of "really nice camper owners"!! A lot of you still remember our trip down 3 years ago in the Rolling Turd, as she was affectionately named. Since coming home from that trip, she has sat in our yard, never going anywhere, and falling apart on the outside. poor girl.... My husband said he would never attempt another trip with her because the siding would probably start peeling off going down the freeway :scared1: So this summer we've been doing lots of thinking, and about 1 month ago we found the 5th wheel camper of our dreams! But due to me being one of those non-impulsive purchase kind of people, I had to be really sure that it would be affordable. And due to the big hearts of our local RV/Camper business- we traded the Rolling Turd in (for a lot more than she was really worth) and they made it affordable for us to get our dream camper!!party:

She is a 2017 Columbus Palomino 377MBC. That's her registered name, anyway. Once we get to know her better, we'll give her a "real" name :goodvibes She has a beautiful bedroom in the front, a loft bed in the middle, and another bedroom/bunkhouse off the kitchen. So for our 4 kids at this point, she is perfect. And when the day comes they don't want to share the loft bed- there is a queen size sofa bed in the living area we can use as well....I believe she is 42 feet long total, which seems enormous! And 4 slide outs, so once you are inside, it's almost nicer than our own home LOL There's even a fireplace, for goodness sakes- I just can't imagine! Do people really USE those?? There's a fridge bigger than the one in our own home, and my most favorite thing of all- A PANTRY!! Honestly- I've wanted a pantry in my house my whole life, and look at this- I've finally got one!! There's a place to put a washer/dryer, so by next year I'm hoping to save enough to add that = I know in the Rolling Turd that was one of my favorite things about it, so I'm hoping to be able to have that again....

Only thing we don't have (and kind of would've liked, but not to the point it was a deal breaker) is an outdoor kitchen... We figure most places will have a grill, and that's good enough for us :goodvibes

So now it's time to make some new memories! I have to admit- when we said goodbye to the Rolling Turd- I stood in there and could see my big brother (the one who passed away shortly after our trip) sitting on the couch visiting just as plain as if he was really there- that was tough... But I know he's smiling down on my right now, and probably very relieved we won't attempt to drive that beast anywhere again LOL

So I'm heading to Disney's website, and booking our very first vacation with our new girl- the first 2 weeks of October 2017! Fort Wilderness- here we come!! :dancer:

Congratulations. I can feel your excitement and joy as I read your post. I am sure you will have many memories in the new 5er to go along with all the old memories from the old one.

CONGRATS! pixiedust: I know how excited we were when we finally got a "nice" camper. We don't have bunk beds, (no kids anymore) or a outside kitchen. We do take a portable treager with use though, a grill and a roadtrip grill. The fireplace, ours has one too, do we use it, yep, camping during cool weather, turn the heat on and use the campgrounds electric instead of wasting our propane. If your fireplace is like ours, it has a "high" "low" "hour timer" and "temp control" we use the temp control, set at 70 or 75 and call it good. If you look at my avatar, that's our newest camper, 2014 Cougar, 35 foot. We could have used a extra AC unit on the bedroom this year on vacation but will add that at a later date. Again, CONGRATS on the new purchase!:cool1:

Come to think of it, serenitygr, you HAVE been kinda quiet lately. Now that you have the new dream camper and a trip set, hopefully that will change.

Congrats!

I know Bama Ed :) I stalk the DIS camping board continuously..... but since we were there last fall (in a rented camper) from that time until now my life has been crazy here in MN. We raise puppies here, and there hasn't been one day in our lives since last December that we haven't had puppies in our house :) But I miss everyone all the time, and can't wait to be back! And I'll be getting pictures asap so everyone can share in my excitement first hand! Talk to you soon!
ps. any chance we'll get to meet you next year? That is definitely on my bucket list of life :)

Oooo! Very nice. The Palomino is nearly identical to my new Chaparral (390QSMB) except you have the loft over the mid-bunk. I looked at that exact model and I would likely have bought it had my local dealer not believed their trailer was gold plated. Their best deal was 10% off list. I laughed and walked. My Chaparral listed fairly close to the Palomino, but a dealer 90 minutes away offered me 33% off that list price, so that made the decision easy.

You will love this trailer! We do. Going out again this weekend because I can't get enough of it. We have 38 nights camped this year already. That's over a month and there have only been 8 months so far!

I was just looking at some "Stock" photos (as well as from rvtrader). Wow! That's nice. I think even my DW would like that one. Not the price tag though, but the camper, definitely. :)

Have to ask.... What do you tow it with? Some how I am thinking my F250 SRW (Gas not Diesel) won't be enough.

Well, well, well. We thought maybe you had fallen off the Earth it has been so long. Good to hear from you again. Congrats on new camper.

First two weeks of October 2017...:scratchin

We've got a 2500 Chevy diesel- hes also planning to do something to it to boost the power but I am not mechanically inclined to know what he means! LOL

Come on Tiggerdad!! You can do it!! Just hop online- real quick like- Disneyworld.com- go to Fort Wilderness, and book that campsite!! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:
(we are arriving Monday October 2nd, and checking out Sunday the 15th, and are already booked!)

:cool1:That trip report is always fun to remember! Congratulations and that is wonderful! enjoy the new adventures, new memories, and returns to the Fort with the new trailer :dogdance:

Congratulations, We have looked at that trailer and liked it, my wife wanted to turn the mid room or rear in to an office, as we have no kids. The loft would be for the nephews when they come with us. Best of luck with it.

Congratulations serenitygr. Long time since I have seen any post, and are extremely happy and excited for you and your family. When we met a couple years ago, it was with "high fives" reading your brave trip reports driving home to the frozen land. We were so happy to hear you finally made it after a late departure and numerous challenges. May your planning be full of adventure, and your trip next year awesome. We hope this finds our winter weather a bit milder than the predictions. But then, "whatcha gonna do ''bout it anyways!" Googled your fiver, beautiful and such a perfect fit for your family. Not sure if you went the route of home schooling, but if you did, this will truly provide some quiet space. Blessings for future camping trips to be all that they are. Wonderful, peaceful, and full of adventure. Barb

Congratulations! And know you will enjoy many great camping trips! I can't imagine traveling anywhere except in our RV.

I'm just glad to hear from you again. Thought maybe you'd gotten lost somewhere near Cotton, MN.

Oh, BTW, I still got those pig sticker cooking rods you left with us last year. Now you got a rig to haul them in. If we cross paths I'll return them to you.

LOL We've actually gone through Cotton a couple times in this past year :) And I think of you every time! Last winter we actually got pretty spoiled- I think we only had to plow ourselves out 5 or 6 times- hardly makes it worthwhile buying a snowplow, for goodness sakes! This year I'm sure we'll pay for it- there were patches of frost on the ground this morning for the first time :sad::sad:

But yesterday we brought our new baby home- she is sitting right out in front of our house right now. We had lots of family over last night to meet her, and it still seems a little hard to believe she really belongs to us! (well- to the bank and us, but mostly to us LOL) We may take some of our totes out from when we unpacked the rolling turd, and move some things in before parking her in the barn for the winter... They winterized her already, so that's nice.... Did I mention the little stinker even has an ICE MAKER!! LOL We found out things yesterday we didn't even realize she had!

You keep those sticks! They were a gift :flower: We've actually got a bunch more now that my aunt gave us, so we'll put those in there... But I'm holding out for you to book your spot next October! Even my kids still talk about you- we'd all love to see you guys again! And anyone else who can book during that time!

An Ice Maker... Eh? While I think that's a cool thing to have, I also can't help to cringe when I think about it. Why? Because it just sounds challenging to be able to "Winterize" the Ice Maker. Never having to do it, it may be a simple task, but some how, I don't think so.

Either way, I am happy for you to have your new baby home. I know we were excited when we brought our new TT home too.

Sorry, serenitygr, we won't be there during your visit. However there is a possibility of Halloween week 2017 but it will months before we know if all the pieces fall into place.

Meeting me is underwhelming, I have to admit. I hope you have hundreds of other items above that on your bucket list of life. :rotfl:
