Just booked the 8 day Mediterranean from Rome for next June!! I'm so excited I don't know what to do with myself! It will be my husband, myself and our then 7 year old son.

This will be our third cruise and first one on one of the smaller ships...excited to see what the Magic is all about! This will also be our first time not getting a verandah. We usually stay in the extended verandahs on deck 5...I booked us in a midship Oceanview on deck 2 for this cruise. I'm really hoping I won't regret this...verandahs are running about $1,500 more. We may upgrade down the road but I'm bracing myself for flight costs. Anyone stayed in an Oceanview on deck 2 on the Magic? If so what did you think?

Also for those that have been on the bigger ships and then one of the smaller ones did you still enjoy yourself? We love the Aquaduck and mini golf and the other features but also excited to see what all the Magic has to offer

1500$ is way too much for a verandah. Most of us barely spend time in the cabin anyway.

I agree!! We've done the Western on the Fantasy and a 4 night on the Dream and loved our verandahs for both of those cruises but with this one being so port intensive I just can't justify it!

After staying twice in a verandah room on the Alaskan cruises, for our third we booked a mid ship deck 2 oceanview. We didn't mind at all not having a balcony (which would have cost over 2k more!) and we didn't have any problems with the room. The only thing we didn't like was that we really like to always take the stairs up and down the decks when we can, and being so low it was a much harder trek to do so. My folks who travelled with us have bum knees and hips, and one of my knees gives me trouble sometimes, so we ended up taking the elevator a lot more than we did on our previous cruises where we were on deck 7. It was the only cruise we gained a significant amount of weight on because of this so we prefer to be on deck 5 and up now.

Any

Honestly, on my first three cruises, I've had balcony (navigator's, regular and the biggest over-extended balcony + the re-assigned handicapped room that was huge)... Realizing we spend more or less 30 minutes per day on it, DH and I booked an interior cabin after that. Then another interior cabin. Then and OV. We found out (much to our surprise!) that we are perfectly fine with interior and that we find OV quite pleasant. I would possibly book a verandah if it was less than 200$ for the upgrade but that's it.

As you said, during a port intensive cruise, it's even harder to justify!

We've stayed on Deck 2 a couple of times and haven't regretted it. The balcony is nice, but we often find it's not worth the extra cost to us and are happy to be out and about instead of in our room.

We were just in a Deck 2 oceanview on the Magic in April. It was really neat being so close to the water.

Being directly beneath Lumiere's got a little noisy in the evenings. Kitchen noise, not diners. It was around 10 or 11.

I have a bad knee as well...it doesn't give me trouble all the time but when it flares up it's awful! So I completely understand this!! I'm with you we usually like to take the stairs too! Hopefully all the walking we'll do in the ports will offset the amount of food we'll eat lol

What room number did you stay in if you don't mind me asking?

I really like having a balcony, but I don't think it's necessary at all and I absolutely do not think it's necessary in the Mediterranean, where you will subject yourself to long port days! Keep in mind that excursions can be really pricey so you may want to budget for that. We are doing deck 2 oceanview on the Magic next May :)

We've enjoyed our verandahs but I definitely couldn't justify it with this cruise...glad to hear you liked deck 2!:)

Oh that's awesome you'll be right before us!:) Yes this excursions can get really pricey! We're going to 5 ports on this cruise...I'm only planning on doing excursions in two or three of them. The other few I'd like to hopefully just walk around the port and have low key days. Haven't researched a whole lot yet but that's what I'm hoping:) Enjoy your cruise!!

I've only stayed in verandahs on Disney, but have sailed on other cruise lines in ocean view and interior. For the Mediterranean an ocean view will do fine. It is so port intensive you'll barely be in your room. I really liked the Magic, I think I like the bigger ships a little more, but not enough to never sail on Magic again. You'll also get to experience the new restaurant they just added and the shows will be different from the ones you've been on. You're going to have a great time!

I've done deck 2 on the Magic 3 times. I love it and have no desire to stay higher.

I've heard some noise, during loading/unloading (and occasionally docking) but we've been up at those times so it's never been an issue for us.

On Day 1, my son and I usually have a race to deck 9 via the stairs, but as a cruise goes on, we do take the elevators more. The bonus about being on deck 2 is that there's rarely a crowd on the elevator. Since my son spends a lot of time in the kids club, we don't mind the walk up to deck 5.

Yes I'm so excited for Tanlged and Rapunzel's Royal Table!!! We'll definitely sail on the bigger ships again but can't wait to experience the original ship!:)

We've been on the Fantasy, Dream and the Magic several times and the Magic is my favorite. In fact, we did B2B Magic cruises in Europe when my DS was 7. It was AMAZING! My DS loved the kids club on that ship and the "AquaDunk" which I watched him do many times as there was no way I was going on it! There are so many activities to do on the ship, I don't think you will miss the bigger ships. I actually loved how "small" the Magic was. It was so easy to walk around and navigate the ship. It felt very cozy.

MY DH and I have been on the Magic, Wonder and Fantasy. Actually like the Wonder (sister ship to Magic) the best because it is smaller. You'll have a great time on the Magic and the trip sounds exciting for your family. Verandas are an absolute for us. The DH will only cruise with a veranda reading his books and watching the ocean for other ships or floating debris. Books, binoculars, and a veranda, he's a happy camper (cruiser).

We had a verandah on the med cruise last year and rarely used it. As others have said it is port-intensive. Use the money for excursions. We booked the British Isles cruise for 9/19 and our going with an oceanview this time.
