So, exactly how much to tip at Palo's?

I've never seen the specifics discussed here so I thought I'd ask. When we went in October we had a total bill of $84 for dinner which included the $5 each charge (2 of us), a bottle of wine and our tip. I believe the wine was around $40 so I think we tipped her $30 or so - it was a wonderfully relaxed meal with excellent service.

For brunch, we had a DIS group and I can't remember what we tipped in addition to the $10/person charge.

Anyone else want to share their tips?

I wouldn't tip that much. The $5 already are a kind of tip, so you tipped her/him $40!!! If you compare this to the recommended $3,50 per person/per day for your regular waiter, it sounds a bit strong.
But I have to admit that I fell for the same trick: I tipped about $20 & the $5 per person when we dined there.
So I have to modify my first sentence: "I wouldn't tip that much AGAIN"

We compared the Palo dinner to something we'd have at a place like the CA grill where we would probably spend about $100 for the two of us before tip and without alcohol. Based on this we left an additional $15 for tip, bringing the total up to $25. We did not order wine or anything like that. We also overtipped our regular serving team and that came out to about $22 per day for two people. In a regular restaurant you don't normally tip the bus boys or whoever keeps your beverage glasses filled, nor do you tip the manager for making sure things run smoothly. When I look at how much I am tipping for the meal I add all three together because presumably at a regular restaurant there is some kind of tip sharing that is just broken out on the cruise. We had such great service that I don't feel that this was excessive.

The two of us tipped $20 over the $5 per person charge for dinner. We didn't have any alcohol, and like Lisa F, thought that the dinner would probably have been around $100 if we had paid for it, so we tipped 20%. We also tipped $20 for the champagne brunch, over and above the $10 per person charge. Both Carita (dinner) and Lorenzo (brunch) were very pleasant and knew their stuff.

Dont forget if you have a glass or bottle of wine, the auto 15% gratuity is added. We tipped an additional $15.00 over and above the $10.00 applied charge when we went to Palo last week.

Our total came to $85.00 , we did have a glass of champagne each and two glasses of wine for me and one for DH. The champage was pricy like ten dollars a glass. I also had a glass of amareto and I think DH had a specialty ccoffee like an irish one, but maybe it was regular-I was not paying attention too much. Whatever our total came up to DH rounded it to an even 85. So my guess is we tipped somewhere between 20-40 dollars over the five dollar each cover charge. Well worth the excellent service.

We have never been to Palos and are cruising in June 2003. How much does it cost to eat at Palos. I know there is a cover charge, not sure how much, but what else do you have to pay for?

I think we normally tip $20 over and above the cover charge for dinner and we tipped $10 for brunch. Since high tea is free, and therefore you don't get a slip to sign and add more, I brought phone cards with me. We had three servers taking care of us at tea, so I gave a phone card to each of them. Dalibor, Salvatorre, and Carita on the Magic are the best!

Trobert, the cover is $5 per person at dinner and $10 per person for brunch, which includes one glass of champagne. If you order any alcoholic beverages, bottled water or specialty coffee drinks you will pay extra for those.

As for tipping at Palo we generally leave an extra $25 - $40, depending upon how expensive the wine is that we drink. Seriously, I always tip a good deal at Palo, it's worth it, the service is always excellent and we are happy to reward excellent service.

The min is $5/person for the service(cover) charge. Just like the dinning room, the extra's are: wine, liquor, special coffee, and of course the additonal tips. Service is great and they do pamper you.

It is $5.00 per person + any drinks you may order.
