and her car is too small to tow it. My truck has 130K miles on it. Not the best time to start towing.

the tranny is slipping, replacement is about $1700!
something is/was clunking in the front suspension. 2 shocks- 2 lower ball joints- 1 upper ball joint- 3 hours labor = $570!

last month the A/C compressor seized up, another $600

remind me how this saving us money, compared to a WDW vacation? Hehehehehee

Sounds like you needed a new vehicle anyway. ;) We have a popup and use to camp all the time when our kids were younger. (they are now grown with their own families) We all loved it and found ourselves taking long weekends to go camping as often as we could. About a month after we got the popup we took a trip to the Badlands, Mt Rushmore, and Yellowstone. Camped the whole 10 nights it was great.

We had a pop-up camper for years and loved every minute we used it, which was quite frequently. We sold it about 8 years ago for a 31ft self-contained that we keep onsite at a campground. I hate the thing. If DH wasn't on unemployment, we'd be buying another pop-up in a month or so. You'll love it....just get a vehicle you can tow it with.

Those bills are only about 6 months of car payments. Now is not a good time for nonstop new car payments...

maybe when hers is paid off.

I remember going with my parents in our pop up camper. It was always such an adventure.

I'll remember those trips for the rest of my life.

I expect it to be much easier than tent camping. Which was or previous method. Until we bought a home in 2004, and got a patio fire pit. having the fridge and toilet so close to the fire was nice. Now we are getting the urge again.

a pop up is our style since we like to drive around the area and look at the local sites and scenes.

My parents had a pop-up when we were kids. It gave me the camping bug early. As a teen I camped in a tent with my friends every weekend we were able. Then I got married and my husband and I bought a camper and we loved it. Once the kids came our camper was too small so we sold it.

We soon realized we wanted to introduce our kids to camping but could not afford a boat and a bigger camper so we bought a tent.

A really nice, super tent with three rooms and everything! Yeah well it seems we were no longer tent people.:confused3 :lmao: My 7 year old reinforced that by telling us he wouldn't be accompanying us in a tent ever again and lets get back to those 5 star hotels instead! Spoiled and definitely missing out on the fun stuff in life...or was he?

So now I'm looking again for a camper and a pop-up may be just the ticket!:thumbsup2 Anyone need a tent?:lmao: :rotfl:

Enjoy your pop-up! :) Do you take the dogs?

We used to have a pop-up and took some nice vacations with it. You do need a proper tow vehicle, though. maybe the stimulus will be kind to you.

hmm Can you hook it up to your belt and you tow it?

Something will work out. Could you maybe buy a used truck? We've seen some unbelievable deals from people that are really needing the money.

But I am not a camping girl. I would pick Disney everytime. But what about camping about Disney? The camping board here is a great group and they make it sounds fantastic.

yeah, I would say you could get another vehicle for cheap that would tow the camper. park your other vehicle until your ship comes in.

Sigh...I'd love to get a pop-up camper. We almost bought one a couple years ago from some friends of ours-I'm saying "we" when I mean "me"! DH brought me back down to earth.

We're tent campers and I'd love a pop-up that would be so easy to set up at camp and we could store all our stuff in. Maybe someday...

(Sorry, I know this doesn't help your truck/towing situation!)

I love my pop-up. We're still trying to decide if we will bring it with us when we move to Florida. Probably will.

Last year I actually rented it out during the times we weren't using it. It was a nice way to supplement our income since I'm off during the summers. I even have a repeat customer this year.

Heck, one side is a king size bed!

though we have not been camping since we got Q and Fred, they will be coming with for the first few trips. If they will be quiet at night, maybe they can keep coming with.

We have the extreme luxury of my mom begging us to leave them with her when we go out of town. Heheheheeee

We have had all types of camping trailers and loved them all! I keep thinking that it would be nice to buy a new one. We could take it to Florida (like a rolling DVC). It is important to invest in a proper tow vehicle. It will cost you less in the end then trying to use one that is not made for the weight of towing. There is a good web discussion board like this one.

We had a popup for a while and I really enjoyed. A comfortable bed and a small AC if we needed it - it was great! I agree that you really need a good tow vehicle though.

thanks for the link.

I would also add the following message board:

www.popupexplorer.com

Check out the towing section. It will address the "can I tow this with that" questions.

Have fun and enjoy camp driveway or camp backyard if you can before you do a long trip.
