I voted "no, it looks cute!" but does he like it? Not that a 4-year old should necessarily have a say! I think he'd look adorable in just about any haircut!
I'll be honest, it looks like he needs a trim... but only along towards the sides. I like longer hair, but when it just looks shaggy and not cut to be styled that way I am not as keen on it. I'd get the sides evened out a smidge but let the rest go. I think the front/top part looks great and cute!

My boys have the exact same hair. They like to keep it super short because the cowlicks are very hard to work with otherwise. What I actually do is use a #2 clipper on the sides and in the back and leave the top a little longer where the cowlicks are. It looks good this way, but it requires a haircut every 4 weeks minimum.
I think if he is happy with it and if there is no fuss involved in keeping it looking good, then let it grow long. I think it would be impossible for little Aiden to be anything but adorable, regardless of hair length.
