They have a name picked out, NBC Universal. The deal is still pending government approval. Looks to be a done deal shortly! Everything I read asks...what will happen to the parks? Guess we wait and see.
I thought I heard they weren't interested in the parks at all? I heard they were going to sell the parks and keep the company itself...but I guess the sources weren't accurate? Well, I'd prefer Universal stay one big company as it is (parks included) or else it just wouldn't be "Universal Studios" anymore...at least not technically.
My husband, a long time General Electric employee, has been encouraging me to ask for a GE discount when booking with UO since he tells me GE now owns Universal. Since NBC is owned by GE, he is correct, but no discount for GE employees! When I looked into it, I also read that GE has little interest in keeping Universal theme parks, but it wasn't clear who the pieces would be sold to.
If they sell the parks to anyone it will probably be Blackstone Group. They were stock holders when Vivendi was running everything and were also bidding to buy the rest of the company when it went up for sale.
I heard that when the "big kahunas" toured the park, they really did like them. As far as selling them is concerned, they have stated(I'm not sure of the exact person's name) that they don't really know much about theme parks in general but are certainly willing to learn.
So, pretty much nothing has been decided or will be for a long time.
As far as GE employee discounts go, the ink isn't really even dry yet on the contracts so be patient, I'm sure they'll decide something soon.
