Have plans to buy (3) 7day hoppers at the Disney store this wknd using my Disney Visa card. Yup, want those extra reward dollars.
DH is now talking about the hosp where he works going on strike. Ok he's been mentioning this for a while but I finally heard him last night.
Sooooo do I go ahead and buy these thinking things will turn around? or do I hesitate and wait for the prices to rise?

I think that I would have a hard time putting that much $$$ on my credit card if I knew that there was the possibility of my spouse being out of work for awhile.

Do you already have the $$$ set aside to pay for the passes? How will a strike impact your day-to-day finances? It's been my experience that hospital strikes rarely last very long. Perhaps you can just wait it out. The triple points promotion runs thru Dec. 24.

I agree. My friend's orchestra was out on strike for 5 weeks because they refused a$4000 pay cut on a $30000 salary. The management removed health coverage and even with a small strike fund salary sent by other orchestras, they were hurting.
I'd suggest giving yourself a comfortable cushion until you know the results of negotiation.

DH works for a hospital??? Then I would not panic as much as if he worked for a manufacturing plant. Typically hospital strikes are short (unless it is Kaiser and you live in N. California, then all bets are off!) You rarely hear of a hospital strike going that long. Orchestra's are a whole different matter.

Hosptials are under more pressure to settle since they have sick patients in the beds.

I can't advise you on the tickets.

IMHO, I would wait to see if the strike happens. I believe that my receipt for purchasing park tickets said that they were non-refundable. Hope things work out for you!

Those extra reward dollars aren't that much.

If your husband is out of work for several weeks, the interest on the card when you decide to use your savings to pay the mortgage instead of the Disney Visa will eat up every extra reward dollar.

Unless you have an ample cushion for the strike (i.e. several months of living expesnes stashed away, or the ability to live off your paycheck if he is out of work for a while) I wouldn't make any unnecessary purchases.

Hope it all works out.

I agree. I knew someone who was out of work so long he actually had to make withdrawals from his 401(k) to pay his living expenses. The tax penalities for that...well, at least he's working now.

I think I would wait it out too. Chances are that the Disney Visa will have another points promo before your trip, and I would be very hesitant to tie up taht much money if there were a chance that a breadwinner *might* be out of work.

DH's union was < 1 week from striking, and we had already contacted the mortgage company & car loan company to make arrangements for reduced payments should he go out. Fortuneately, it never happened.

JMHO--but I would wait.

Yes, I too would wait. You are supposed to have a six month cushion saved up or so they advice. Even if you do, I'd hold off on the tickets. Disney rewards just aren't that great.
