SO disappointed in Earl of Sandwich

I’ve been hearing how wonderful earl of sandwich is for years. I had a ham and cheese sandwich tonight, and it was truly horrible.

Are all sandwiches served on a big 2” thick biscuit? I would have been ok with a roll, bread or croissant - but a biscuit made it seem like a breakfast sandwich. It crumbled in a million pieces and just fell apart even though the sandwich was kind of dry.

The sauce was something that was ultra sweet. And the ham was kind of slimy. Tasted like that ham made from pressing ham pieces together.

I ate two bites and threw the rest away. Oh well - it was quite reasonably priced by Disney standards. But I won’t be going back.

That's odd, the Earl of Sandwich by us doesn't even have biscuits and I don't ever remember seeing them on the menu at the WDW location either. All of our sandwiches have always come on rectangular-ish bread, although, I believe that the breakfast sandwiches are on round rolls.

I like their crunchy toasted ciabatta - I don’t like subs on soft bread so Earl of Sandwich is always a winner for me. I also like that they don’t overfill their sandwiches. I have never had the ham so I cannot comment on that.

It is definitely a bummer to have an expectation and be disappointed. We have always enjoyed our sandwiches there.

We bought sandwiches from there for our plane meal last year and unfortunately all were left on the Disney bus to MCO except the Caprese. The bread was definitely rectangular in shape and labeled "artisanal" which made me giggle since it certainly wasn't by my understanding of the word. All our sandwiches and salad were cold so maybe that made the difference in bread type? I will say I thought we got what we paid for and enjoyed the one sammy we had.

What a bummer!

I think they are a mediocre chain sandwich shop but they are priced better than most Disney spots and serve something that is relatively hard to find throughout WDW - basic sandwiches and chips. That's my guess on why it's popular there.

We have one nearby but think the other sandwich shops around are better so we rarely go. Judging by how empty ours stays, I'm guessing others aren't impressed either. ;)

I think it's several steps up from Subway's but that is the only franchised sandwich shop by us. What chain sandwich shop do you feel is superior? The knowledge will help when we travel:).

Yes! I agree it's a step up from Subway (though I do think their bread is pretty tasty...). We have several chains + local spots nearby. For chains, I'm a fan of Which Wich, Jersey Mike's, and Potbelly. Firehouse isn't bad, either! I really love Schlotzsky's but we don't have any here :(

Schlotzsky's is the best! Just a short drive to Athens for us :)

I can’t bring myself to try Which Wich because of the stupid name. I know...I’m petty.

I agree! I think you nailed it. Thats also my guess as to why its so popular. Its priced better than most places in disney. To me, its a glorified subway...its a sandwich for crying out loud! Not a great one. So I really dont get the hype it gets. :confused3 When im at DS no way i'd pick EoS over something like WGPE for example.

Years and years ago EoS was unique compared to many of the other offerings around. But over time they've simply been lost in the shadow of the newer 'fast casual' options. Back in the day I enjoyed EoS, and it's not horrible, but there are so many better choices now and to me Earl hasn't improved with the times.

That is exactly how we feel too. First time we had it in 2012 in Calirofrnia, it was a bit higher quality than it is today. Plus the one at WDW is always mobbed with people now, so perhaps they're rushing orders a bit? We don't really have many in Philly (a casino and the airport) so I cannot compare the quality. It's a skip for us now.

Earl of Sandwich is a TURNPIKE quick food joint. They are all up and down the turnpike. Plan and expect accordingly...........they do have good breakfast sandwiches after a ten hour drive though.
:crazy2: :rotfl2:Of course, when your choices are, Dunkin Donuts (limited Turnpike menu) KFC (limited Turnpike menu) after 10 hours, expectations can run a bit on the low side. Sadly, they are no better even sprinkled with pixiedust: Gloppy, comes to mind.

Based on that description I give you kudos for getting through two bites!! :crazy2:

Disappointing to hear your report. In the past we always enjoyed the food at Earl Of Sandwich. Hope it was an isolated issue and not indicative of an overall decline.
