So desperately sad

I'm watching a programme on Anne Frank... how she died 3 weeks before the British got there. She died of cold. So sad. Perhaps the darkest chapter in human history, maybe even darker than Mao.

The British liberated 60,000 inmates. 14,000 went on to die afterwards from pestilence. And don't forget the millions killed by gas, gunshot, hanging and more. :(

I recall reading her diary in 7th grade.
I had not been taught about the Holocaust yet.
Words cannot describe my emotions at the time.
My parents visited her hideaway when they toured Europe.
They were very shaken by all that they learned there.

Never Again must be taken seriously - NEVER AGAIN!

I recently watched "A Small Light" and was motivated to reread Anne's Diary and a few other books on the subject. I had done lots of reading on the subject as a teen and visited the Anne Frank house as a young woman. Such a sad time in history. Anne was close to my mom's age so I often find myself thinking of her when I'm thinking about my mom's longevity. Anne would be 93 now. Miep Giles, one of the people who helped hide them, lived to be 100.

Never again would be wonderful. But Here we go Again is more like it. As a species we really are..distressing.
