So we have a trip planned over Easter weekend booked with 2019 points (sept use year, banking deadline april 30th). Should I just wait until Disney announces the resorts will be closed at that time, then my reservation will automatically be canceled, right? Then I can bank those points into my 2020 use year? If I cancel now, without a closure being announced, will they go into holding? If a miracle happens and they dont close, we'll probably go since we live close but I just dont see anyway that's possible.

We are kind of in the same boat. I am just waiting to cancel until they announce the probably closure through April. If I cancel now or later, it doesn't matter, we are still inside the 30 day mark. But if they announce a closure, I will at least have their policy to stand behind for not going into holding. They may not put your points in holding if it does close, but there is no benefit and you would have to ask or hope they just do it on their own. Which I am not super comfortable with.

it looks like DVC will cancel the reservation automatically. There is a link on the website about the points not going into holding. I think I am going to wait until they cancel my June 4 reservation or see how things are by May 5 to decide whether to cancel mine.

I was scheduled to go April 18- using a combo of banked, current and borrowed points. I finally ripped the band aid off and cancelled today. My points did not go into holding but they did not put the borrowed points back. I figured it will take a few days to do that so I'm going to wait it out before I call.

I think you will have to call or send an email for that, At first, the borrowed points was just for March. It appears they are allowing it for April too, but I’ve only seen posts that happened when people called,

I am not sure it will be done automatically, because I am not sure the system can be altered to allow for that short term, Holding is easy because that only kicks in at less than 31 days,

I cancelled our 4/11 trip yesterday. We had banked and current use year points. No points in holding, current year remains intact until banking period is up and banked points need to be used before they expire. For the banked points I am looking into depositing them into RCI which I was told that I have until Dec 31, 2022 to use. Still debating in the depositing and banking current use year.

Any advice? I have a mid-April reservation for the now cancelled RunDisney Star Wars race. I used June 2019 UR points and borrowed 2020 points. My banking deadline for the June UR points was 1/31 so I'm passed that.

I was going to call since I heard they are returning borrowed points again, but should I wait until the room is actually cancelled to try to do something about the 2019 points? I'm apparently one of the small group of people who this is going to hit :) It's not a ton of points, but even if I could try to plan another last minute trip there is an increasingly smaller chance of this thing ending by the end of May (when my 2019 points would need to be used).

I am going to cancel our trip scheduled for May 29th. I used current points, borrowed points and one time purchase points to make up the difference. If I cancel, I assume all points will go to my current use year. Will I have the ability to bank any of these points as my banking before my banking window, which is Oct?

Right now, they are doing nothing with the banking rules, so IMO, you aren’t risking anything canceling now.

What you could risk is them alternating the rules on borrowed points if this extends longer, They do not have to keep that adjustment in place. People would complain and it might be deemed unfair, but at some point, they will stop that,

So, if it were me and I would Cancel, get the borrowed points back and reschedule with the banked points,

I do believe if they decide to help those beyond banking deadline, it would be for anyone effected up to the start of resort closure. JMO

Thanks so much for your thoughts, which basically echo mine. I'm worried about the flip flop on the borrowed points so I might as well salvage what I can right now. I'm off to call.

I called 9.30 this morning have a June UY I have a trip booked for late April using 2020 points . I was told that if I cancel they will be put the points into 2019 and will have to be used my May 31 and will not be put into 2020 . Maybe I should try tomorrow and see what they say . I would be interested to know if anyone else phoned today having a June UY with an April reservation and what they were told

It could be the timing of your trip. Some reports for earlier April, but I don’t remember reading any for your time frame yet.

Having said that, I would call back and see what the new CM say. Officially, it is supposed to only be for the time the resorts are closed.

I'm curious about the use of converting to RCI points. It's looking pretty good that I won't be able to use my banked pointed within this final use year. However, if I can convert to RCI points it might open an option that would otherwise not exist at all for DVC points. (Yes, I completely get that RCI point isn't a "good value" but if I can't use DVC points as DVC, then perhaps some use is better.)

Does anyone have insight or experience to converting to RCI points?

I called about an hour ago and reached a very sweet CM. Seriously, she sounded about 15 :) Anyway, my mid-April reservation with June UY had 35 or so 2018 points and the rest (about 70) were 2019. She told me she could put the borrowed points back, but at this point couldn't do anything about the 2018 points. This was better than last week when I called and they weren't putting the borrowed points back. I decided not to risk losing the 2019 points and cancelled now. She advised me to contact DVC via email and explain my circumstances and see what they could do about the 2018 points. I'd already done so a week ago so she told me to wait another week, and then call back. I figured it was better to have one set of points to fight about (i.e. the 30ish points from 2018) rather than both. When they cancel April, I will call back and see what they can do for me with those points. I may try to make a reservation to protect myself for the end of May, but WDW really isn't going to be on my list of places I want to go when this is all over. The one bummer is that she said it could take 15-30 days for those borrowed points to appear back in my account. But beggars/choosers and all that :)

Thanks Sandi I will call back next week maybe they will have more answers . My 30 days is wednesday

People have reported the points showing up in about 4 days! Glad you at least got that. The message on DVC website says they are discussing things regarding banking.

I will say, though, if your points are already banked, it will probably be one of the areas that they won’t bend on. But, again, we just never know!

I hope they show up that quickly. The thirty odd points that will be left in this use year I guess go in holding? My goal would be to bank them to next year.

No holding on them. But all that means is can’t book less than 60 days out. Since 60 days from today would be May 22nd, and they expire May 31st...unless policy changes...it wouldn’t really matter,

Personally, I think once we know further closing, DVC will be able to figure out a possible solution because at that point, they will know how many points are effected.

Right, got it. Thanks!
