Didn't have time to post this before I left but here is the story...

As I was packing for my trip 2 weeks ago I asked my 9 year old to help pick out some clothes she wanted to bring. We were making her pile when she picked up a pair of shorts and told me she wanted to bring them. I looked at the shorts and told her to pick a different pair. The shorts she had picked had the word "princess" written on the butt. I recalled a long thread on the boards here with people complaining how much they hated the shorts and how innapropriate they are etc. I recalled it being a long thread and I did not want to post b/c I did not want to get slammed. You see I happen to like the shorts and I think they look cute on my daughter. Not provocative but innocently cute. I took a sec to think then I told my daughter of course she could bring the shorts. I am ashamed at myself for letting other people's opions(even briefly) overrule my own.

So those in the world Aug 15-23 who saw a young girl with princess shorts on that was us. I say that with pride!

Good for you. In what kind of world do we live in that the very sight of a little girl with a word written on the butt of her shorts is deemed provacotive or inappropirate? I missed that whole thread, but sometimes there is just a bit too much nitpicking here. On my trip I was constantly thinking, "what would the DISboarders think" and then laughing at myself.

Sorry, guys, I do love these boards, but sometimes we all need to just LIGHTENEN UP!

I remember the thread well. It went on forever! But I don't think the "inappropriatness" was directed at little girls, but at not so little girls. Put the same pair of shorts on a 17 year old and it changes quite a bit. I wouldn't dream of wearing the same clothes as my 17 year old, and she wouldn't dream of wearing the same clothes as her 8 year old cousin.

When these people pay your bills, then you worry, untill then you decide what is appropriate for your young lady. Everyone has an opinion (me included) and that opinion is worth exactly what you paid for it.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about it either. I think that's a lot different. I have to admit, I'm guilty of wearing them at 21, but they only have stars on them made of "jewels" and I actually wasn't aware that they (terrycloth capris, really cute) had the stars on them until I got home because I was a slacker and didn't try them on. I think on a 9 year old it's just cute...It's different with someone close to my age wearing "sexy" or "2hot4u" etc.

"Princess" isn't a big deal. "Eye Candy" on the other hand, would be inapporpriate IMO. Princess doesn't connotate any reference to sexual attention so it's no big deal.

But opinions are like armpits. Everyones got 'em and some tend to stink.

...and you meant that literally didn't you??;) ;) Sometimes I wonder if shorts for teens aren't actually the same size as the young girls.

Hey, on a young girl I don't see where the problem is. The same thing on a 40 year old man and you're going to get a "look" from us...

Hey, Bob, I'm a 42 year old man, I'll be at WDW the first week of October and I'm planning on wearing "Princess" shorts every day of the week! I bet I'll get more than one "look"! ;)

VERY good point. I don't see any issue with the word "Princess" But yes, anything with a sexual inuendo for a pre-teen or young teen IS wrong. I don't think that makes us opinionated...just shows we have common sense. Who thinks it's a good idea for a 9 yr old girl to walk around with shorts that say "sexy?"

I agree with this. I have often said "How can parents let their 12 year ol daughters wear shirts with the word "Hottie" sprawled across it. Or tight pants with Bootylicious across the butt.

But Princess is just...well...cute. My only concern would be for creepy people reading my daughters behind, but 99.9% of teh folks are just going to glance and say "Oh...Princess. Cute. What a cute little kid".

That other miniscule percentile that is made up fo the creeps, well they'll find any reason to look.

There is nothing wrong with Princess shorts.

Hey, if you can't run around with "princess" on your shorts in Disney, where can you? I am sure you made Cinderella and all the rest proud!:D

I remember seeing a T-shirt in a store for about a 3 year old girl,
It said " Future Fox ". I thought the shirt was adorable.

"Princess" on a 9 year old's butt is totally innocent. I'm glad you let her wear them.

My girls (8 and 11) have shorts with "Soccer" and "Dance" written across the tiny little bottom and I think it's cure as can be. I would draw the line on terms such as "foxy." Of course, if someone would just go ahead and elect me fashion czar, I would abolish pants with writing on the butt for anyone over 18 or over 120 pounds (same rule with spandex) along with tank tops for men and a few other thing!

Last year my daughter's 4th grade class made tie dye t-shirts for field day. The (female and mother of 2 girls) teacher told the girls in the class to "be careful where you put the bulls eyes" and we all got a laugh out of that.

I want to be at the world when BOB is there, sometimes after a long day of trudging thru the parks we could use a pick me up!!!!:p

This is a little off the subject, but I feel like sharing...

I have a pair of shorts with "Kiss My" written on the butt. I've never worn them out of the house, but they seem to let my family know when to give me some space... haha!!!

I'm sure someone must have already seen this during Gay Days.

Sorry, couldn't resist. I'm anti-PC and it shows.

I'm a preschool teacher and we've done "handprint" t-shirts many times. You learn really quickly to watch where those handprints go on the teachers' shirts! :o

We'll have the digi camera ready! :p

Glad you decided to let her pack the Princess shorts, she's still at the age where she would just look cute, you could even add one of those sparkling princess wands to the look. Opinions, are just that, sometimes you have to decide what you think is right, and you did. IMHO, you did good.:D
