I am so mad at myself, I could scream!

Last July my daughter and I took a voluntary bump off a Midwest Airlines flight and we received free vouchers to use on a future flight. I have kept them in with my important papers since then. A few weeks ago, I remember thinking I should put them in an envelope or something since they were small, thin pieces of paper so they wouldn't get lost.

well, guess what...I LOST THEM! I actually think they got mixed in with some papers and thrown away. Midwest claims they don't keep records of the vouchers (I don't buy that) and that they are not able to reissue them...so we are out a free flight! UGH!!!!!

have you ever tried to redeem a voucher from an airline? You have to move heaven and earth and jump thru hoops. They make it VERY difficult. I called to redeem one and the guy conveniently forgot to tell me that I had to go to the airport within 36 hours of calling him or the voucher was void. moral of story, never agree to be bumped.

Similar problem here. DH got a voucher on USAir when bumped shortly before we moved from Detroit to Green Bay. Tried to use it here and although it says USAir flies here, actually another airline "operates those flights" according to them and we could only use it if we drove to Chicago. Ended up giving it to a relative and am not even sure he was ever able to use it because of all the restrictions. Maybe console yourself that you never would have been able to use it when you want to anyways? :confused3

I've watched Southwest fill out the vouchers when we volunteered to be bumped and I didn't see them make a copy of it at any time, so they may be telling the truth.

And the 36 hour thing is common. If you call and book a flight, you generally have until about midnight the next night to pay for it, whether it's with a voucher or money. That's pretty standard.

I often offer to be bumped when I have leeway in my return. I have no problems using up vouchers! :thumbsup2

I did the same thing! We had to cancel a WDW vacation because of illness. We were issued vouchers and I new exactly where I put them. Then for some reason I took them out of the box and put them on the counter, somehow they ended up getting thrown out.

If their computer system is anything like American Airlines (who I work for), there really is no way for them to trace your vouchers. That really stinks, though.
