So about this Hurricane - 10/7 Dream cancelled, 10/7 Magic Canadian, 10/8 now 10/9 Fantasy 6-night

Wouldn't they just bring the ships and dock them in Tampa? Haven't they done that before? Other side of Florida and you could still use the buses to get to Orlando, but that is just my 2 cents

i don't know, but a few people have posted in this thread that the dream and fantasy are too big for tampa...

Thank you for this information. I had no idea about the regulation. That certainly puts another wrinkle into what DCL's options are if they need to go to a foreign port.

Well, it was a thought and not like DCL asked me anyways Any other ports on that side of Florida that can accommodate the Dream or Fantasy? I can see maybe using Miami and not coming all the way up but it would have to be a Florida port, right?

They would. Though I think busses with 3000+ passengers shuttling down I-95 in the middle of a hurricane might be poo poo'd by Disney's Insurance people.

especially since the path has it starting the trek up the coast at about palm beach, so it's fine tuning to think you can bring a ship into miami and miss the hurricane that's just up the coast....
and especially considering the extent of the damage that they caused the disney fantasy when they accidentally took it through sandy - i would imagine they're a bit gun-shy after that incident...

Out of curiosity have any of the other major cruise lines canceled any of their sailings at this time? There seems to be a lot of "I will never sail Disney again" mentality going on but if they are not doing anything differently than other cruise lines then it seems you should be pointing a finger at the entire industry and not calling out a single line just because they are the ones you happened to be booked with when a hurricane formed.

Cruising with Carnival this week-end...

People cruising thursday and friday are expecting news later today (or later)... I'm expecting news by thursday or friday.

So far, none have been cancelled, most of them have changed itinerary except a 4 days onw who should be back to PC early thursday morning.

It would be nice if DCL would step up and do the same. For folks flying into a hurricane warning, for a cruise that might well not happen, it would be nice to have a little time to get our ducks in a row.

people keep saying this but unless a cruise is cancelled altogether, the insurance wouldnt kick in, right? Even if the cruise simply sailed in a circle for three days, teh trip wasnt necessarily interrupted, right? And if the cruise IS cancelled, DCL will refund. I'm just not so sure insurance is the answer to the issues at hand as the "cancel for any reason" coverage seems to onyl cover 50% of the cost (at least the ones i've been researching)

This is correct, that insurance won't kick in unless either the cruise is severely delayed or cancelled. (If severely delayed, you might get compensation for the time missed. Depends on the policy). If the cruise sails in a circle, you're getting the minimum DCL contracted for. If you missed excursions you booked on your own, you might be covered for that. But either your flights or your cruise have to be cancelled or severely delayed for insurance to be an option.

Would trip insurance cover something like this? I would think unless you had "cancel for any reason insurance" it would not cover weather unless you were unable to fly to your destination. I always buy insurance, but I don't remember anything about being able to cancel due to bad weather.

You can't, unless your home is threatened. If the hurricane were headed for your home, most policies would cover the cancellation.

I don't understand why anyone is cancelling themselves now if they would lose all the money.

If you would lose the money dont cancel, you would lose exactly the same amount if you just no showed wouldn't you? So even if they don't cancel until 2 hours before your flight should have left you have more options if you didn't cancel early. If they dont cancel at all you lost nothing extra but not doing anything.

My thoughts exactly. To do anything before the airlines or cruise companies make a decision is unnecessary. If one cancels first they lose regardless of what the company does after the fact.

parts of florida are under a hurricane watch....that's serious....not just some guestimate with a TS on the other side of the atlantic..
other cruise lines are allowing changes without penalty.... people are just asking that DCL do the same....permit them to make a change without penalty...[/QUOTE

I'm sure it is frustrating, but the tracks have been off enough in the past that no one is willing to really commit to anything until they absolutely have to (cruise lines, airlines, schools, government). Even within 8 hours of projected landfall, these things can turn and be 100 miles off in a different direction. We have had storms that were going to impact the state that turned at the last second after everything was closed (looking at you Lloyd) and those that evacuation orders were set (move everyone from Tampa/St. Pete to Orlando) and it makes landfall 100 miles south and 5 hours early and goes right through Orlando (thanks Charley). It could pick up speed and clear out 4 hours earlier (again, thanks Charley) or slow way down and hang out for 2 days just soaking everything (Frances and Jeanne). I feel your pain and hope for the best for everyone who is traveling..
