ok ... so before this roadtrip I was scared to death of using Priceline... I was terrified that I would get nasty, ratholes for hotels....

Well, I gotta tell you... Priceline is now my addiction! LOL

A week before my trip, I was still looking for the best online deals for hotels across the country. I happened to chat with Kimraye who kindly walked me thru the Priceline process. She said she owes all of her knowledge to NancyIL... so BIG THANKS TO NANCY!!:)for her skill sharing!

Anyway..I was still very skeptical... but son of a guy.. it has been a huge savings to us on this trip. We have stayed in very nice hotels.. Doubletree, Sheraton, Holiday Inn's.. at less than $40 a night.. the going rate being at least $85 or more.

I find it fun and challenging to do the bidding with Priceline. I just get so tickled when I get a hotel with a lowbid.. or I get an upgrade.. oooo that is way cool!

I have not tried doing airlines or cars yet.. but I think I will do so later this year.

All in all I owe big savings to the lovely DIS buddies sharing their skills!

So anyone else out there with an online addiction?
Or am I alone in my Priceline addiction?

 :p

LOL! Everytime I think of Priceline.com, I think of Captain Kirk.:teeth: Do you really get good deals there? I'm not much of a negotiater.

I'm using right now... my only online addiction is the DIS!!

MamaJoan..had any Chicago Pizza yet?! There's a Nancy's stuffed pizza on LaGrange Road/Rte. 45 in Mokena! Not too terribly far from you! (If you're where I thing you are. :) ) That's my off line addiction!

I know what you mean. I get a little "high" when one of my bids gets accepted.

We bid on a vacation package to Hawaii and are getting a great deal thru them, airfare, car and Hotel.

Priceline is AWESOME!!!! We have never had a bad thing happen, and at this point, we have saved so much, that even if something bad did happen, it still would have all been worth it!

NancyIl gave me the courage to try Priceline for a hotel room too and it's the GREATEST! Thanks Nancy!:sunny:

Thanks for your kind words, Kim, mamajoan, and Big V! But I need to give credit where credit is due. I got hooked on Priceline in early 2000 after Glo got the Swan!! After her success, I got the Marriott Orlando World Center for my March 2000 trip - and I've been a fan of Priceline's ever since!

If it weren't for the www.biddingfortravel.com site, I wouldn't have known all that I do. :)

Don't you have to give them your credit card info up front? How does it work? Maybe I'll try it for my trip back to PA in September.

Glad you are having a good trip Joan! BTW you got Becky, Seth and I craving SONIC, so we went a few days ago. You gotta try the Peach slushy, or the Peaches & Cream milkshake. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!

I was wondering that, too. Don't you *have* to take a bid even if it's at a hotel you don't like or something?

Thanks NancyIL and glo for getting me hooked on Priceline as well. I've used it on 3 or 4 occasions to get absolutely wonderful rooms in Chicago for rock bottom prices. My only warning is to not get too carried away with bidding for travel too many months in advance. That's the only mistake that I've made. The two reasons that I won't book early again is:
1. They have your money from the time you bid
2. Plans change and you might end up not being able to use your room.

In my case, the pluses of using priceline have FAR exceeded the minuses. And I'm getting better at it all the time thanks to the mentoring of the "experts" here on the DIS.

I've always wanted to try them, but have been afraid, thanks!!!!
I will try them for my trip to Boston in Oct.

I like hotwire better for hotels. You pay a tad more on the bid, but you get a better idea of the amenities that are offered on the hotel you are bidding on.

I have to agree, I love priceline. I would never have the nerve to use it if I didn't read biddingfortravel.com first. Read the post first and then take a deep breath and bid!
