Every major road s.e. MA and RI is a unplowed parking lot averaging 1hr per 1/2 mile to travel, and part of my commute is off limits because the road is closed. So I was released an hour ago, but will be here for the time being until the roads clear a bit.

Fortunately DH is home with the dogs and I have food, hot chocolate, my laptop, a book, and computer games here at work :rotfl:

Be safe fellow locals- the roads are really bad until people get off the road and let the plows do their job.

my mom's work let her out early. and a bunch of stuff at my school was cancelled. but me and my friends hope for a snow day tommorow so we can go sledding. we're little kids at heart!

Ive always wondered what it would be like to take a nap under your desk! Now is your chance to let me know! ;)

It just started snowing here in southern Maine about half an hour ago, and the roads are really slippery. I just got home with my groceries. My husband was supposed to travel to Connecticut tonight, but the place of business he was going to has shut down for the day. Guess it's bad down there.

DH's office in central NJ closed at noon today. He was going out for lunch with some co-workers. :confused3

no room under the desk to nap  I do have DH's xmas gift (a massage chair) in the boss' unused office that I can open up if needed.

We've gotten about 4-5 inches since 11:30am but the problem is that the traffic lights are backing people up, you can't get on the hwy because people literally can't move, and there's been no plows out because there's too many people on the road

That just made me think of the Seinfeld episode with George under his desk. :rotfl:

I fear for any teachers if some horrible storm came and they were trapped over night with the students. :roftl2:

I can't get over how much snow has fallen in such a short period of time. (I live a few miles from Crankyshank/Jen.)

Two of our kids are home, safe and sound. Oldest DD, in college, got a flat tire on Rte 95 shortly before the snow started, but there was such a long line to get new tires (procrastinators waiting until bad weather!) that it would be 5 hours before they could put a new one on, so she's going back tomorrow.

The family party at mom's assisted living home was cancelled tonight, but I just happen to be there when they put tonight's food out for lunch. :thumbsup2 DH still has his company party tonight, and considering people came from NYC and California, I'm guessing they'll go ahead with it no matter what.

Jen, is that a Homedics massager? Tried one out at Bed Bath and Beyond yesterday...almost dozed off. :) Sounds to me like you're all set! Be careful on the roads when you head home.

2 years ago I waited at school for almost 2 hours after an early dismissal with one of my students and her sisters. Her parents were stuck 45 minutes away from school. Luckily I live really close by, so it wasn't a long drive home for me. Today wasn't too bad. We had a 12:45 early dismissal, and most of my parent pick up kids were gone by 1:00. The roads her are horrible- we're supposed to get 12" by the time the storm is over:scared1:

You poor thing. If I ever had to say that phrase I would be poking myself in the eye with a pencil.

Drive careful when you get out.

Mare, it's the ijoy massager from Linens N Things with the massaging ottoman. :thumbsup2
I'm glad your DD got the flat before the snow started. There are breakdowns everywhere around here. Providence is a mess - co-worker's husband literally just arrived to get her and he left Lincoln @ 1:00 :scared1:

I wonder if the bar next door is still open and selling food

I posted a thread with pics from Plymouth. I took a 1/2 day to get errands done and they called and told me to turn around (I was 3 miles from office). So at 11:30 I turned around and drove the 34 miles home. Got DD on way home from school. DH and I work for same company. They sent him home at 2, at 3 he had made it 5 or so miles (lower end of 128, South Shore Plaza).

So I sit here with music playing, timer on (so I don't forget a 4:00 conf call), candle burning, lights on, non appropriate beverage in hand :lmao: ...waiting for work to come my way.

still at work - 3hrs later. almost 6hrs since it began and several inches of snow later and still no plows :sad2:
People are getting stuck all over from running out of gas, or being unable to get up a hill or down a street because of the amount of snow.
You'd think we'd have more than 6-7 inches :sad2:

Thanks so much for posting this info. I learn so much here on the DIS. Does anyone know what the weather's like in/around Worcester? DM had a rather important doctor's appointment today and I can't reach her to see if she made it.

DH works in Worcester, but is home today. It depends on which route she's traveling. The Pike is a mess, I know from friends in the area. DH's co-workers who live near us (south of Worcester via 146) are still on the road 2hrs later and have barely made it to 146 and have about 25miles left to go

Any luck getting home yet Crankyshank? I hope your not still stuck at work.
