A few people have mentioned that WDW will hire snowbirds ? I think that's what you called them. People who spend the winters in Orlando.

Since Dh and I are planning to do that for 6 mths could anyone give me some info on that. We have considered going to work for WDW or DL but I have no idea how to get hired or if it's even possible since we are from Canada

Anyone apply there that are from Canada ?

How does it work if your from Canada ?

What about childcare ? I saw that DL has onsite child care.

I don't have an anwer for you but I'm thinking of doing the excate same thing.....all though I won't need child care.

I figure that is my now 13yr old DD, got accepted into the college program I'd move down with her.... sure she'll love that idea ;) !

We have 3 kids. 3 yrs, 12 yrs and 15 yrs. We plan to take off when the 12 yr old grads in 5 yrs. We are starting our planning now since I know it will take alot to be able to go for a whole year !

I don't know if he will want to come with us since he is only 17 but if he doesn't he can stay home with his brother or with my parents lol.

The 3 yr old will be 8 and she is coming with us. I don't think we will need childcare but at the same time I don't think I want to leave an 8 yr old on her own either. Mind you I don't want to work at all lol.

But if we decide we want to stay after our yr we will have to work to support ourselves !

Maybe working for Disney will make it so we can stay there even longer.

I investigated this for myself - I'm also from Canada. If you were from the US, it would be pretty simple and straightforward. Disney does hire people who are only there for a few months and many people come back every year. But if you are Canadian, you need a "green card" or permit in order to work in the US, and I've been told that Disney won't accept your application without it.

You've been told correctly, only it's not a Disney rule, it's a US Gov't rule.

Snowbirds do work at WDW and they're considered seasonal employees. You will probably get assigned to a minimum wage job. (At least I did when I did this) On the plus side, you do get some nice perks even if you're only seasonal. For this alone, it might be worth it to you.

Florida minimum wage is $6.79/hour - so don't plan on paying for your FtW site with that. You won't get a discount on your site, either.

If you work an attraction, it'll suck the life out of you. If you stay at FtW for an extended period, it'll suck the life out of your bank account!

That's a little difficult since you can't get one without already having employment to go to. lol

Call casting @ 407 828-1000 and ask them. We are "birds" and I work a couple of days a week for a few months. It won't pay the bills but as stated before the perks are great!

This is a dream of DH and I to one day spend the winter at FW. We had thought about working at WDW , I'm finishing my degree in nursing right now and several of my nursing friends have worked in the US.( I'm Canadian). There is such a nursing shortage everywhere it seems that potential employers will look after all the "paper work" for you if you agree to come work in the US. Last year we had 'head hunters"from Conn. at our school and they paid the way for about five students to go down and tour the state and the hospital. I'll keep watching this thread, hopefully when the time is right the opportunity will still be there.popcorn::
