It's right in the middle. The 12th-20th. Not terrible, but not ideal. The reason we were leaning towards it in the first place was that our friends were originally planning on being there through the 14th. Also, I was planning on the Wilderness Lodge for the Christmas decor. However, now our friends are leaving on the 12th, so there's practically no chance of overlap, and she indicated that the Wilderness Lodge was booked up with the AFS discount for her dates, and I wouldn't be surprised if the same was true for ours, since things get progressively more crowded throughout the month. I should have booked tentatively before, but never got around to it. We do have a SoG reservation, but I was thinking we would split the stay.

I am leaning a bit more towards January for the cost savings, but I would be going in completely from scratch, because I haven't booked ADRs for then.

Also, his current projected orders actually indicate a report date at the end of January, instead of March, which would really throw a wrench in our plans. He sent out an email to find out if it was a mistake, so a number of things could happen:
1.) They could say it's not a mistake, and be expected to report then, thus being forced to finish his master's online.
2.) They could say it's a mistake and change the orders to March and still send us to Fort Riley.
or 3.) They could say it's a mistake and change the orders to March AND a completely different location.

The final factor is that we're looking at buying at house this time around, so we need to be a little more money conscious than usual.

Happy New Year's Eve! It's suppose to get down to 28* here tonight~ pretty chilly...should be getting a 'wintry mix' tonight into tomorrow~which means pretty much that we will just have icy slick roads. Hoping 2015 brings you all peace and health and joy!!!

Hi Birdie friends!!!
It feels like forever since I've been here! So busy. But I wanted to say hi and Happy New Year!!!

We surprised the girls with the trip, and kept it secret until Sarah started asking to make plans over Christmas break and we kept saying no. Finally on Christmas Eve we revealed it. They kind of thought maybe WDW, but were totally surprised with the cruise, and super excited that friends were going with us!!!
We ended up having a great trip - met up with our dance teacher and his family one day at WDW, then met our friends there on NYDay. The U of MN football team was playing a bowl game in Orlando, so their dad and brother went to the game while the ladies hit MK!
Then on 1/2 we got on the Dream. So much fun, way too short!! We got off Monday morning and drove home for 2 days. Got colder and colder every hour. By the time we got back it was subzero - what a slap in the face from the 80 we had on Castaway Cay!!

It was an awesome trip, but I gotta tell you, NYE in the park is not for the weak! Such crowds - it seemed dangerous to be a small person!!! We watched Wishes from the front of the castle/hub, but then went to do stuff and could not get back in front for the midnight ones. So we rode more rides and then watched them from behind. It was huge, so we saw them just fine!

Hope to pop in around here more often, but life has limited my DIS time lately!

It's sad to me that this thread gets less and less active as the years go by.

I'm finally getting back to Disney in September (6-12). Not my ideal snowbird time, but at least we get to go!

Hi all... Thought I would share... My daughter was married about a month ago.... She did a Disney themed Beauty And the Beast wedding..., it was perfect.... She looked lovely, the day was amazing....

We are headed down to Disney in a couple of weeks with my son and his girlfriend for 5 days.... Staying at Shades of Green.... We have booked the Wild Africia Trek... Excited to try that tour... It's their fall break... Both in graduate school...

how beautiful is she!!! ?? And I love the B&B theme!! I cannot believe you made all that cupcakery! LOL! You did an awesome job! I can't believe either, that we have kids from this thread getting married...thats just unreal. Congrats again...thanks for sharing!
