Didn't want to hijack the other thread so started a new one.

Both my dd and I are looking to get snow tires for our cars this year. Any recomendations?

One car is a 2013 Sonata and 2013 Civic.

Thanks.

I don't have any recommendations, really, but I got new ones for my husbands pickup last year and need to get new ones for mine this year. I got last year's at Sears and they seem pretty good and they were less than $100 a tire. I'm hoping that they have the same brand for my new vehicle. I've only lived up north for a year and a half though, so I'm mostly interested in seeing what people have to say. Thanks for starting the thread!

Blizzaks are considered the "go to" snow tire these days & have been for quite some time. But, most major tire companies make something comparable. I'd start there & see what your local tire guy has.

Thanks! Will check out Blizzaks as well as Michelin Ice X.

For those of you that have snow tires...can I just have them dismount my regular tires and use the same rims? Or is it the same price to just buy new rims?

Every time a tire is mounted or dismounted, some stresses are imposed on it. Also, for those of you who jack up the car and install the tires yourselves, dismounting and remounting adds extra trips to and scheduled appointments with the shop to your life style together with added costs.

Where do you people live? Out here on Long Island NY we just used regular all weather tires all year.
And we sometimes get a good deal of,snow

We never use snow tires. Just regular all weather tires in Seattle. We have a Subaru Forester that works great on steep snowy roads in the mountains.

We live in Vermont. Our hills are outrageous and most plowing is done by private contactors ( a guy with a truck and a plow payed to plow once a week or so). My friend kept all seasons on her Mercedes last year and when it was under 0, which was pretty much the whole month of feb, her computer system gave her malfunction messages because of her tires

I've used Blizzaks before and really liked them. My (non-4wd CRV) is really bad in the snow without GREAT tires. I've had great customer service with Tire Warehouse many times in the past and they have really earned my business. I have to buy at least TWO sets of snow tires this winter (my car and the kids' car) and I am hoping if I bring both cars in at once I can get some sort of volume discount. I've also had good luck with Costco and BJs for tires in the past.............P
