It's been such a wierd day. This is supposed to be our last full day here, so went to DTD for supper. Had a wierd supper at Rainforest, and then got a horrible phone call that a family we are friends with died in a plane crash. Anyway...I just can't seem to make a decision right now.

We're supposed to fly into KC tomorrow, right in the middle of a huge snow storm. We thought for sure the flight would be cancelled by now, but nothing yet. 4:30 pm flight. Since we live 5 hours from KC, we will be stuck there until at least the next day, so I'm wondering if we should just stay here one more night. What should I do? And, can I use my 35 percent PIN on an extra night?

stay another night! Wait it out in a much better place than at an airport. That's what I would do. Why risk it? :confused3
I can't give you advice on your PIN though.

I would stay at Disney. If you get to Kansas and the weather is bad chances are that there may not be any hotel rooms available. So you might have to spend the night in the airport. I would stay put. Most airlines are offering those with tickets the ability to reschedule for free. But don't wait. There are going to be 1000's of people looking for seats on flight that are probably pretty full already so you might just get stuck in Florida for a day or two.

Sorry about your friend!
Stay another night, and avoid a bad travel day!

Sorry about your friends. I would make a decision quickly, it's going to be hard to get seats tomorrow if flights are being cancelled. Which airline is it? I would check if they have a weather waiver up to change without charge.

Well I guess the decision has been made for you. I was just watching the Today show and they said much of Kansas city is shut down already. So it is not looking good.

The transportation dept is urging companies to let their workers stay home today.

Yep, I'm on the phone right now, trying to get a different flight. The crazy thing is that they still haven't cancelled the flight!

Thank you all for your advice and kind words. We're still just in shock. We've been seeing the story on national news and just cannot believe it. If any of you have had the news on, it's the one that went down in Nashville. He's been a pilot as long as we've known him. Unfortunately, his wife, daughter and granddaughter were also killed.

I did see the story, I am so sorry for your loss. :(

I hope you and your family have a safe trip back to Kansas.

I am so sorry for the loss of your friend. Take solace in the fact that he is being hailed as a hero because witnesses say that he deliberately avoided striking the YMCA building which was in his path.

Sorry for your loss...:littleangel:
Saw the story on the news this morning...
As someone else mentioned they called the pilot a hero for avoiding the building (think it was a YMCA).
I had a PIN a few years back and they let me use it on an upgrade....
Hope they give you the PIN on your extra days...
Have a safe trip home....:grouphug:

Very sorry on the loss of your friends.

I would talk to disney and see what they can do for you. They are very familiar with travel issues that cause longer stays.

We had to extend a trip due to Tropical storm Fay. I had a plan A and a plan B. Plan B was extending the trip will we could get out- which ended up being 5 days later. we were on the Autotrain. Disney CRO spent an hr with me to locate a room for 6 of us. We were in our DVC villa but needed to move to a hotel room. they even told us if we could leave on time they would waive the cancellation charge.

definitely stay in touch with the airlines too.

Good Luck and Very sorry for the lost of friends.

Thanks so much to all of you! After a lot of calling (was on the phone with SW for well over an hour), changing rooms, Magical Express, stroller rental extension, etc., it all worked out, and we're here an extra night. We originally had 2 Garden View rooms at the BC, but ended up just getting one Standard View room for tonight, which seems surprisingly bigger. We figured we could all stuff in here for one night. :). Also, I feel like we got a great rate, at $208!!

We've been reading and watching the news about the crash, and the people of that area have been so kind to reach out to our community regarding Glenn and his family. The one thing that brings any amount of comfort is that so many lives on the ground were spared.

My dh is also a pilot, and I have to admit that it's going to be awhile before I'm comfortable with him flying again.

I am in the same boat. My DH is a pilot and after our plane stalled in the air! I worry about him flying and fret till I hear he has touched down. Try to enjoy your last night.

I hear ya. I pray continually until I know my dh has touched down, as well. He had an engine failure a couple years ago, but thankfully landed safely. We talked a lot on the way home yesterday about stall speeds, how long it takes him to recover, etc. He had an excellent instructor who practiced stalls over and over with him, but I know that practice doesn't always prepare you for the reality of that situation. Glenn had years of flying under his belt, was IFR certified, but an accident can happen to anyone.

It's just heartbreaking, and a reminder that life is so fragile, and so short, really.

So sorry for your loss bcbmommy. I live in the community, just a couple of miles from where your friends crashed. We all have heavy hearts today. Just so terribly sad. It is a very emotional time for so many. Prayers.

I want to share this link - it was written by a mother here in Bellevue. http://suburbanturmoil.com/to-the-f...ull/2014/02/04/#sthash.IretCh4b.BWPpPGZg.gbpl

Thank you, sargenca. I read that article, and I can tell you that our community is so touched by the compassion that your community has shown. For so many people to go out of their way to express their kind words and thoughts, is just amazing.
