We'd love for our DS(14) to try snow skiing. We would have to go sometime between Christmas & Jan. 9th, when our DS is out of school for winter break. Our problem is that we've lived in FL so long that neither of us want to drive in bad weather.
Which ski resort in the Southeast has the best chance of having clear roads (no snow &/or ice) to get there. I grew up in the mtns. of NC & know the roads to the resorts in Boone & surrounding areas will most likely be slick. Is there any nice resorts that we wouldn't have to slide into?
We prefer a resort that has everything in one area (accommodations, dining, shops, & slopes w/i walking distance) limiting the amount of driving we'd have to do. Unfortunately, that's another negative with Boone. Does what we're looking for exist?
TIA

If I didn't know better, I'd think we were the same person.
We're hoping to combine a Christmas trip to NC, with a ski trip. If the roads get too bad at Christmas, we call up our BILs & have them bring the 4 wheel drives to pick us up. We can't do that at a ski lodge, & need someplace our wimpy van can go.
However, I do have a wimpy van.
My inlaws are big fans of the casino in Cherokee. I'm sure they'd just have to come see us, if we went to MV.
I've read that they're supposed to have a bad winter. You never can tell though. We were supposed to be blown away by hurricanes this summer, but I'm still here typing away.
