Hi guys!

We are headed down to Southern California at the beginning of December, and in my planning I have noticed many theme parks (Legoland, Universal) have winter wonderland themed days where the marketing images show families playing in snow in the parkas and mittens! Haha, we are going south to get AWAY from the snow, not go find more!

Are we *really* going to need winter gear down there at these events? Have any of you experienced this? What's it like?

Thanks!

They usually have snow at the Safari Park and Sea World here in San Diego. The snow itself is cold, but it's still southern cal and usually about 60 degrees. It melts quickly, they've just created their own little ice box effect by making so much snow in one area. I don't think you'll need parkas and all that, maybe just gloves if you plan on actually playing in it so you're fingers don't freeze.

If it gets to the low 50's at night, people around here will be wearing parkas anyway. That's cold to us and we get few chances to break out the winter wear. :)

The only park in SoCal that can get natural snow on a somewhat regular basis is Six Flags Magic Mountain.

Every other park, either the snow is man made for play areas (Universal) or foam for parades (Disneyland).

It most likely won't get below 50 degrees during the middle of the night and could get as high as 75 during the day.

Apart from SeaWorld is there any other fake snow area in SoCal? Say, as far north as Santa Monica?

We're just finishing up our week. We went to Sea World three days and my girls loved the snow. I couldn't find waterproof gloves for them in Tucson, so the just wore their regular knit gloves. Their hands got icy cold and wet (I'd really recommend better gloves), but other than that, it wasn't bad. Some people were wearing shorts and t-shirts to play in the snow (being from so AZ, my girls wore their jackets).
