Does anyone know if the snow at DL is "real". What I mean is, do they make snow (out of water) or is it some other substance? DH thought that he heard a long time ago that it was really tiny bubbles and not actually snow. We've never seen it so haven't been able to inspect it for ourselves.

I thought they were made from water as well...

I sure hope no one tries to catch them in their mouth!

It's bubbles, but they are MAGIC :wizard: bubbles to those of us who grew up/now live where it never snows :rotfl:

Okay.... shhhh.... no one tell DH that the snow is really bubbles. Last time we had APs (about 6 years ago) he didn't want to stay to see the "snow". Don't ask me why. :confused3 So now i'm trying to convince him we need to see the new expanded lights down main street and watch the fireworks and experience the snow. He said if it's bubbles he's not interested. He's sort of joking but it may be a bit of struggle to get him to want to watch it since we do have real snow about once every year or two at our house in our little corner of So Cal. But I want to see the Magic snow! Well, I'll start working on convincing him now so he'll have plenty of time to warm up to the idea. :rolleyes1

One of our favorite Disney memories actually revolves around just that issue. Before we moved out west, we lived in IL and then PA, where it snows a LOT, so seeing snow wasn't a big deal at all.

However, the first time we were on Disney property for the holidays was WDW for Christimas 2004 and I will never forget our first experience with Disney "snow". We were back in the Streets of America portion of MGM (now DHS) where they have the Obsourne Family Lights Spectacular. The temperature was relatively chilly--probably in the mid 40s--and they were using the "snow" machines and DBF (now DH) stuck his tongue out and caught a big fat "snowflake" almost immediately. Within seconds he was literally wiping his tongue with his hands trying to get the soapy taste to go away. I was laughing so hard that I was almost crying and it was one of those moments where I knew we were absolutely meant to be together.:rotfl2: :lovestruc

Since then we have moved to Las Vegas, where it has only snowed once in our first two winters out here (which is totally fine by me)! And, as APs we have always planned at least one trip to DLR during the holiday season, with the fireworks and snowfall being one of the absolute highlights of the trip each time.

In memory of that first ill fated attempt to catch a "snowflake" DH always pretends to catch one on his tongue and poses for the camera to capture the moment. It is something that I look forward to with one eye on the past and the other on the future as DH will be teaching DS1 to look and touch, but not to eat them on this year's holiday trip!:santa:

cheshiregirl, that is such a great story! I love it!

Even if the snow is tiny bubbles, I have to say that seeing it snow on Main Street still gave me goosebumps all over! It is still beautiful and really magical.

Um..yeah...I'm a moron.

Although I am glad that she thought I was a keeper.

Sorry, it's bubbles. MY BUBBLES!! ;)

i have to comfirm this!! heh heh heh well u see.......the fireworks canceled bc of high winds so they had the snow instead well......hehe i wanted to see if it was real bc i asked my mom if it was real and thats what she said to do (she was jokeing XD) and i tasted them and it was the WORST SNOW I EVER TASTED!! teehee yeah thats my encounter with the FAKE snow - pout-:santa:

lol :rotfl:

I have to concur on the god-awful taste of Disney snow. On our first family DL trip, they didn't do the snow as scheduled for some reason. I was SO disappointed!!! Two Decembers later, we caught the snow unexpectedly. I was so excited!!! Twirling around in it, shedding a few happy tears, it was glorious - for about 20 seconds. And then one of those flakes somehow landed in my mouth, and it was all over for me. I was gagging - trying desperately to rid my mouth of the taste. I scared the kids as I was shrieking, "Don't open your mouths!" That stuff was so, SO very nasty. I can still taste it, just thinking about it. yuck. It can't be safe!!

And the snow we had didn't look anything like bubbles - they looked like some kind of artifical flakes.

So, yes, be warned, "Don't eat the Disney snow!!!"

its so true so painfully true!! this was my face when it landed in my mouth:scared1: and:scared: :scared: :scared: :scared:

Maybe they make it taste awful on purpose so no one would ever taste more than one!

It snows maybe once every 15 years here and very very light at that. My boys were about 8 when it happened last and that was the first time they saw snow.

Do the bubbles last on the ground once they land?

It's bubbles. It looks like bubbles. And smells like bubbles. It only resembles real snow from a distance. And even then, it barely looks like snow. Unless maybe you've never seen real falling snow. Then maybe you'd think it looks real.

Okay... I'm taking notes: look at the pretty, magical snow and enjoy it's beauty but DO NOT eat it. :scared:

It is bubbles, but it isn't less magical because they are bubbles. :) Last year we were on MS getting "snowed" on, my girls knew they were bubbles and weren't trying to eat them but a little boy was twirling thru with his mouth open and eyes closed eating the bubbles...I was so grossed out! LOL

I think I'm one of the only people that has never been wowed by the bubbles.

LOL my boys were so upset about the snow being bubbles! But me and DS9 are looking foward to the snow bubbles next trip.

Wow, I'm still wondering what in the world was going on for our Disney "snow" last December, because it did NOT look anything like bubbles!! Weird artificial flakes. I was wearing a black jacket and an hour later it still looked like I was covered in a gallon of dandruff.

:confused3

Anyone know why they don't make "real" snow? Just wondering since there are machines that can do that. That's how they get enough snow on the mountains for ski season down here. Maybe they thought real snow is too cold or too wet to fall down on people?

Well real snow does look pretty unbelievable. I'm amazed every time it snows b/c it looks so unreal.

Then again, from 1969 to 1987 it snowed once in San Jose and was melted by noon. And then it doesn't snow very often up in the Tacoma area. So I haven't been around HUGE amounts of snow. :)

Though I went through two "blizzards of '96s", as there was one so called blizzard in early '96 in the Virginia area (where I was living at that time) and then one out in western WA at the end of December of the same year, immediately after I moved back here. Snowed in for days, each time! (but it still looked unreal and magical)
