Many years ago I vaguely remember my kids snorkeling at wdw. I think it was around the submarine ride ? leagues under the sea, possibly. Does WDW still have this?

Yep it's at shark reef. We did that last trip. You don't snorkel for very long, but it was lots of fun!

You can also snorkel in the tank at The Living Seas in Epcot.

Warning: that shark reef tank at Typhoon Lagoon is COLD! they keep it at 72 degrees. It's fun, but just be aware. I reccomend doing that activity last.

Thanks for the heads up. We'll be there next week and I hear the temp is 100 degrees right now so it should be refreshing, lol.

The living seas is really meant for diving. Can't see snorkeling in there being any fun since most of the interesting things to look at is at the bottom and you can't swim through the reef while snorkeling. It is a lot of fun to dive there though.

You can still snorkel where 20,000 Leagues used to be. People may look at you a bit strange, and you will need to find a fountain to do it in, I guess. But you can do it....at least until security shows up. :teeth:

My DH and 3 sons snorkeled in The Living Seas when my youngest was 7 or 8 (he's 21 now).
They did not need admission to Epcot, so it's "extra" but you don't have to go to a park that day if you don't want to use a ticket and do that instead. Meet outside at Guest Relations and escorted in and out. DD and I used tickets to Epcot and we were able to take pics of them. They got a t-shirt and they enjoyed the experience.

Do they let you in Epcot at all or are they very strict about getting you out? Without having to pay an admission. I read one post where a family said they leave you to the door but it would be very easy to just stay in the park.

I have to second how COLD Shark Reef is!!! Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! But I survived and I do not like cold water!

72F Was ideal temperature for me, it Was like to enter in souvenir shop to run off the heat!

I think they escorted them out, but that was many years ago. Honestly, I can't remember. My guess is that they used a separate back entrance into the Living Seas pavilion that avoids the main entrance (going in and out for this event), so you are never really "in" Epcot.

There is a bench on the right by the restrooms before you get to ticket booths. You wait for the cm and enter through a gate there, when you're finished they escort you back to that spot. The snorkeling is really scuba without the weight belt. You can't dive, but you see all the fish and other marine life in the tank. The rays and turtles will come check you out and I had one of the Sand Tiger Sharks come way closer to me than I was comfortable with.

You need to be certified to dive, just an FYI for anyone reading this thread.

We are doing the snorkeling because my dh is certified but I'm not. I've heard that it is just as fun :thumbsup2

The SAS is still fun. My FIL and I were the only two in the tank during our session. About 45 minutes in the water.

I'm so excited for it and I I'm not too worried about it not being fun. So far I haven't read anything negative about it!
