There are life jackets available on the beach. Others have mentioned that you could wear the life jacket in addition to the snorkel vest; I haven't seen that done, personally. I'm not sure how easy it is to get your face in the water with the life jacket where the snorkel vest is designed to provide a bit of buoyancy while horizontal.

I'd say give it a try with the snorkel vest and make changes as needed. The first 100 yards or so are quite shallow so you can see how comfortable she is in an area where you can stand by and help before you head out to the area with the sunken Nautilus and Mickey/Minnie statues.

It's not the most amazing snorkeling in the world, but there is some stuff/sea life out there.

Thanks for the info Adamki. Yes the Nautilus and the Minnie and the main reasons we want to snorkel, any wildlife would be a bonus.

If you are a beginner swimmer or a young child, I recommend doing the Castaway Cay stingray adventure. The water is shallow, you walk in from the beach, it is not a large area, they give you snorkel gear and a snorkel vest, and you have some time to learn how to snorkel in relatively calm water. If you are able to enjoy that, then have fun in the giant snorkel lagoon later in the day.
