Bump. We're going in for a four night in 2004 and I don't know if we should plan an excursion or just stay on board. My family loves to snorkel so I'd like to know also. How is the snorkeling in Nassau?
My DH and I and two friends went on the Nassau Catamaran and Snorkel tour on our 4/22 three-day cruise, it was a hot, sunny day. We really enjoyed ourselves and the snorkeling was great! A guide was out there with us, helping us identify the fish and giving us information about the reefs. He said the Bahamas have the second largest reefs in the world next to the Great Barrier. We saw a variety of fish - blue tang, buttefly fish and parrotfish are some I recall. The coral reef is also beautiful. We got an hour to snorkel. There were a lot of fish around the boat, you had to swim through them to get back on, so save some photos for that (I ran out of film by then). On the trip back to port, adults get rum punch. But beware, the stuff goes down like kool-aid!!
I had nearly given up on this thread -- I am so grateful for your input! We booked the same excursion -- the sailing one, not the other boat -- and I am so glad to hear glowing reports! We did a similar sailing catamaran snorkel trip on our honeymoon in Belize and it was heavenly! Can't wait to try it in the Bahamas! New fish, new reefs . . . Awesome!
And yes, they had the rum punch in Belize as well. Wahoo! that stuff is strong!!
THANK YOU!!
Edited to add: Seriously -- I was about ready to change excusions. Thanks again.
