SNL 50th Should Be Epic!

I forgot about it being their 50th year. I still remember Chevy Chase, Jane Curtin, John Belushi, Dan Akroyd, Steve Martin's many guest appearances, etc. Or maybe I should say "I'm Chevy Chase and you're not!" "Jane, you ignorant S***t!", Rose Ann Roseanna Danna, "Foxes!", "Never mind!" I feel so old.

I’m right there with you remembering those things and now feeling old, old, old. Those first years were by far the best.

Last night's episode was genuinely bad in my opinion. The opening segment was somewhat funny but it went downhill fast. That monologue was something else.

I like Burr too, and enjoyed F is for Family too (funny show!). I didn't think it was a great SNL - could have been better for sure, especially the later sketches, but that's not necessarily Bill's fault.

I agree about the skits. But I did laugh at his opening.

My opinion: They have some great cast members; just lousy writers. They don't have a sense of humor at all.

Cold Open was OK

I had never heard of Bill Burr. He was OK, too.

I really really think they (the writers, producers, whoever) could do so much better!!!

Yeah, Colin Jost just kept plugging along during Weekend Update but the look on his face and his timing of moving onto the next "story" immediately indicated he knew he was really bombing. But I think he and Michael Che write that segment.
Never heard of Bill Burr either, but I don't watch for the guest host or musical guest, I watch for the comedy. Here on the West Coast SNL is shown twice, Live at 830 pm PST and off videotape at 11:30 pm and the audio mixing on the musical guests has been horrific this season on the Live show, but the 11:30 pm replay they get it fixed.

I watch just for Jost and Che... but last night was not funny and uncalled for.. his wife was there!!! I miss Chevy so much... I did his newscasts for talent shows.. and the fellow who comes on after jimmy now ..though I am too old to stay up thst late e

I laughed the entire episode. Martin Short is a comedic genius, the cameos were so good... especially Melissa McCarthy as the wife in the parking sketch. But that Weekend Update joke swap might have been the best, most brutal one yet. Love SNL.

Yeah, Marty did a great job. I wish he had done something with Please Don't Destory, but it was still a good episode. The Che & Jost joke exchange was absolutely savage! I did find it funny, but I mean, dang! ScarJo is a good sport - at least on camera she was.

I laughed till I cried this weekend. Weekend Update was AMAZING. The Christmas episode is always my favorite, by far. Martin Short is also the gift that keeps on giving...love that man!

Was never really fan of Matrtin Short before Murders in the building. He is amaazing in that and now might have to do areconsider on some earlier stuff. Enjoyed last show more than most of late. Was Scarlett Johanson one of the back up dancers as well. One looked a little like her didn't have it taped to rewind.

OMG. MAKE HIM STOP. Loren Michaels must be ready to slash his wrists after the monologue went until 11:56pm. I bet they have to drop half the skits.

I thought the one with the NBC page who became famous I am out of the circle of pop culture...and now she is famous and I found it entertaining ...though update was very weak .. but again a difficult time for comedy
