SNL 50th Should Be Epic!

I liked the week 1 cold open better than week 2, but both were funny and Dana Carvey with the ice cream was a good laugh. I also thought the golf tournament and water park were really funny.

The water park bit was good - pretty stupid, but funny! The George Washington thing was good, but they did that last time Nate hosted and it really wasn't all that different.

I tend to like stupid funny, so it was right up my alley. That's also how I felt on the George Washington. It was good the first time, but this wasn't different enough to have a good running bit sort of vibe.

As I said in an earlier post; I was looking forward to this week and Nate hosting. He was OK but I personally thought they could have done a lot better. The Washington skit was good but bottom line......last year he and the cast members were so much funnier in the skits.

The Cold Open last week was sooooo much better.

Okay, made it an hour in tonight. As my kids used to say. "Weak Sauce". Not helped by the audio being awful tonight.

Section 315 of the Communications Act is known as the equal opportunities requirement (commonly referred to as the "equal time" rule). The law provides that when a broadcast station allows any “legally qualified candidate"—whether for federal, state, or local office—to “use” its facilities, it must provide "equal opportunities" to all other legally qualified candidates for the same office. (Yes, that means this requirement also applies to off-year state and local elections.)

I didn't think it was a great episode. It probably doesn't help that I am not a fan of Mulaney. It seemed like it didn't have much, I guess because of overly long sketches. Nothing was outstanding, though the What's My Name? one was decent. I couldn't remember his name either!

Bill Burr next week should be awesome!

Strongest show of the Season IMO.

Kudos to the Set construction crew-2 of the sets were so elaborate.

Next Saturday will be REAL interesting with the post election show!
First two of season were good. Past the open, last night's really was bad.

I don't know I thought last two were very week, I think Ariana Grande looked more horrified to be in the clip then from having them clipped.
What's worse are they are even ruining weekend update with terrible special guests bits.

Update needs a retool. I like Colin and Che fine, but they have been on it a long time. They need to rely less on the side-people. With the show seemingly getting shorter, it could be trimmed.

They also need more Please Don't Destroy - there has only been one this season.

… and it went downhill from there. The monologue was horrible as were the first two skits. I turned it off.

Most of the sketches weren't that strong, but I liked the monologue and the return of Burr's "Boston Guy" character int he Buffalo Wild Wings commercial. The pre-recorded segment about the Janitor wasn't bad either.

I admit that I skipped the rest of the monologue after he said:

(1) That he avoids vaccines and was worried he caught the flu by “walking past an Asian”. What?!?
(2) Women were 0-2 for president and maybe they should "tart** it up a bit" to win. What?!? **I am avoiding the real word he used on the gentler side of the DIS community board.

I fast forwarded through the rest until I got to the show.

I thought the rorschach test bit was lame and excessively sexist at the same time. Poor Mike Wazowski. I didn't know the "Boston Guy" character before last night, so maybe it was funnier if you already knew who the character was. I didn't like the character and didn't think he was funny. I turned off SNL in the middle of that skit and didn't see the rest.

Well, not that I need to defend a commedian, but he was actually talking about how ridiculous it is to take those positions. If you are familliar with him, he is heavy on the sarcasm. He is also not anti-vax - he said he didn't get his flu shot, but that he was "old shcool and still does the vaccine thing," which is to say that he usually does, but this time he paid for it. The comments about women candidates - again, making fun of the ridiculous notions that people have, some that may even bear out in real life.

The Boston Guy as I called it appeard last time he did SNL as a dude in a Stop & Shop sampling the Sam Adams pumpkin ale, which he did not care for.

Last night's episode was genuinely bad in my opinion. The opening segment was somewhat funny but it went downhill fast. That monologue was something else.
