Sneakers really that bad in July?

I'm hoping my family won't be miserable for wearing only sneakers in July. I know it'll be hot, but I really think they would be more comfortable for walking long hours rather than sandles. I would much rather not have to have more expense getting ready for our trip. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to stay comfortable wearing sneakers in the heat of July???

This might not help with the heat & hot sweaty feet, but with hot spots from wearing tennis shoes all day & walking, walking, walking:

Wear cotton socks & carry with you a spare pr of socks for each of you. Blisters might be avoided if you can change damp socks during the day .. carry moleskin or bandaids just in case. Maybe little feet don't sweat as much as adult feet??? Make sure the tennis shoes fit correctly & are 'broken in' before the trip. Also make sure they have a good arch support!

If you have a second pair of tennis shoes, alternate days with them. (rubbing from shoes=sore feet)

My actual solution costs $ - buy a pair of Tevas for each of you...they are so comfortable, (good arch support) & very durable & can be worn with socks (on airplane ) & without (at parks), can get wet (pools/waterparks)

Guess it depends on how many days you will actually be doing so much walking - if it is worth the purchase. And also if you live in a climate where you can get alot of use out of them before they are outgrown (but you can pass them on to the siblings)

They are probably on sale at a store near you...But I wouldn't wear any ordinary sandals just to keep cool, I think achy feet/ankles are worse than warm ones!

I'm one of the "few" people here that don't own a pair of Teva's. It seems that every one else does. THey most be extrremely comfy. I only wear sneakers in the parks. My whole family does. We never had a problem with being very sweaty at all. No diff. in wearing sneakers at home to us. We wear our sneakers with the regular sweat socks & so far no problem. We don't go on many water rides, so we don't get them wet. We go every July, pack our sneakers for the parks. I also pack sandals for dinner time and if we're just exploring the resorts or doing something else. If your just wearing sneakers for the parks, you shouldn't have any problems.

We are a sneaker family. I must have oddly shaped feet, lol, because every pair of sandals I've tried (including tevas) give me horrible blisters (much worse than my sneaks). Make sure you bring WELL BROKEN IN sneakers though. Last time I bought new ones and thought I had broken them in enough, but boy was I wrong. My old ones were so crumby that I left them home. How I wished I had brought them. I would have looked like a hobo but my feet would have been much happier!

I do bring moleskin and small blister pads (dr scholls makes these and I think band aid does now too). The moleskin I use if we feel a hot spot and the blister pads go on if a blister has started forming. I think I would prefer to leave all my clothes home before leaving my footcare stuff home, LOL!

As far as the heat in July or August, IT'S HOT, lol! But you are going to be hot no matter what you have on your feet! The only big downfall to sneakers is that if they get wet, they take a long time to dry.

I always wear sneakers & have never found them to be hot & uncomfortable walking. I am afraid to wear sandels. As crowded as the parks get, I don't want people stepping on my toes ouch!!!!!

My family wears sneakers most of the time. I do take sandles and we will wear them for short stretches, like if we are going to be in the park for 2-3 hours.

we only wear sneakers in the parks too. :)

sneaker fan here as well. I usually pull the liners out of my tennis shoes in the evening to make sure they get really dry over night. I also sprinkle a little powder in them in the morning. If I come back in the middle of the day I change socks because it seems refreshing. I usually wear sandals in the evening for dinner activities.

Just a bit of advice to bring more than just one pair of shoes for each person--especially if you plan to wear sneakers. Last June it poured during most of our trip. Wet shoes were unavoidable! We wore sneakers the first day and got them SOAKED, wore sandals the next day and got them SOAKED, then resorted to pool flip-flops the next day because nothing had dried out! Don't get me wrong--we thought it was hilarious and had a blast, but I was glad we didn't have to put back on those wet sneakers every day!

Dr. Scholl's foot powder will make a WORLD of difference. Put it inside your socks and inside your shoes every morning and feet will stay dry and comfortable all day. We tried this last month with great results.

We are a sandal family! If my feet are hot, I am miserable. I have had great luck with Clark sandals for myself and sandals from Lands End for my three children (Hubby is the only one who prefers sneakers.)

Sandal people here too! But I read somewhere to spray your feet with deoderant and you won't get any blisters! I've done it and never got a blister with anything that I've worn in disney.

Try Teva sadals for touring the parks w/o blisters. Nothing better!

I was there July 2,3 and 4 and wore sneakers every day. No problem. Actually considering that on July 4th I met several women who viewed thier strollers as battering rams, I recomend sneakers. More protection is these crazy women trying to get to the BEST firework spot run over your feet.

If you wear sneakers in the summer have a second pair because there's a good chance they'll get soaked and in Florida things take a long time to dry out -- they won't be dry by the next morning.

To CarolA: I was just about to post the exact same thing as you said. Tennis shoes protect your feet better from strollers and motorized chairs.

though i always bring 2 pairs of sneakers to wdw, i've used a hair dryer to get my sneakers dry after a downpour before. it seemed to work well. :)
