My family visited VB last month and on a few occasions saw thin black snakes with light colored chins. DS7 thought they were cool, me not so much! Anyone know this type of snake & if they're poisonous? We saw them mostly in the thick bushes while playing tennis.

It depends, if they had a diamond shaped head, it was a water moccasin. Very Venomous. A member of the pit viper family, like rattlesnakes.

If they had a rounded head, similar in size to the body, they were likely black racers. Good snakes for rodent control. Non-venomous, but be sure to get any wound well cleaned, a tetanus shot and doctor care. But both racers and water moccasins are common throughout Florida

We've seen black racers at the Grandstand bus stop at SSR.

Thanks - they were black racers. Good to know not venemous! I'd never seen a snake on a Disney property before until VB.

There's snakes at OKW. A Black Racer crawled across my foot while I was at one of the quite pools a couple of years ago.
