Does anyone know if there are signs posted at the resorts concerning venomous snakes? I know that they have signs warning about alligators, but I have never seen any concerning snakes. If not, I would like to see this implemented on Disney property. Thanks.

I have never seen any.

I don't think any warning signs are needed. There are poisonous snakes all over the world, it's not something that you only find in certain areas, like an alligator.
If they were to post signs warning about snakes, then someone would come along and want signs posted about poisonous spiders, poison ivy, etc. It's not like a sign is going to stop the potential inteaction between these things and a guest.

I don't even recall seeing any signs about gators :confused3 have never even thought about it...don't think its needed at all:confused:

I did see one.
When I returned from the pool back to the building in Port Orleans a snake was on one of the steps that lead to the first floor.
She or he was obviously taking a sun bath and I just stepped over it. I think she was more afraid of me than I of here. :lmao:

Just about the only state in the US which does not have some native poisonous snakes - is Maine.

I havent seen the signs at Disney.. but then Ive never seen snakes at Disney either.

My son was bitten by a water moccasin on our last visit to Disney in May 2009. He spent 3 days in intensive care and received 12 vials of antivenin. If we had seen signs of any kind, I know we would have been more aware. I just don't want any other family to go through what ours did.

We saw one once when we stayed at Fort Wilderness Campground in the camping cabins. They had some sign (or maybe it was a notice in the papers they give you when you check-in) about being careful about venomous snakes as well as plants like poison oak and poison ivy.

You'd have to add Alaska to that list.
PS, no poisonous or venomous spiders in Maine either! :)

No signs for snakes at the parks or resorts (although there's an indication above there may be some for the campground). I've seen snakes around WDW, not sure if they were venomous ones.

No reason you shouldn't contact Disney about your concern.

My relatives in Minnesota always told us there were no venomous snakes in the state, maybe they just wanted to convince us to move there?

I am a little surprised that Disney doesn't have some sort of warning. Do they put something in the resort brochure maybe? I can't imagine that they don't address the issue at all. They must give some general precautions?I grew up in the Mountains of California, and there were always warnings on hiking trails, campgrounds, ect.
I even saw signs posted on the beach in Carmel once, warning people that there had recently been rattlesnake spottings, and to be cautious near rocky areas.
I think people from other parts of the Country may not know what sorts of precautions to take. I know that one time my dad warned a family who had kids climbing all over a rocky hillside (in the middle of summer) while their parents were fishing. They were from out of state and had no idea that rattlesnakes would be in that sort of environment, they thought snakes liked tall grass and water.

Once when travelling from Naples, FL to Disney we stopped at a rest stop and there was a sign warning about poisonous sp? snakes. And, I've read that South Carolina has the most amount of poisonous snakes the the US, so I'm sure that Florida is right up there too.

I would always be aware when being around water, tall grass, etc. while in Disney.

If I remember correctly, your son was bitten by a snake after reaching into a bush or something to get a toy?

Tragic that it happened but I don't see why signs would be needed. Most people know that snakes and other critters hide out in bushes and plants.

just remember that summer last about 20 minutes in Maine.:lmao:
Wow, I didn't think is was that long!!!
It's usually winter, 15 minutes of spring, 10 minutes of summer, 5 minutes of fall, then right back into winter! ;)

60 above zero New Yorkers try to turn on the heat.... People in Maine plant gardens.

50 above zero Californians shiver uncontrollably....... People in Maine sunbathe.

40 above Italian cars won't start..... People in Maine drive with the windows down.

32 above Distilled water freezes..... Moosehead Lake's water gets thicker (for non-Mainers, this is a lake in Maine)

20 above Floridians wear coats, gloves and woolly hats..... People in Maine throw on a sweatshirt.

15 above New York landlords finally turn up the heat.... People in Maine have the last cook-out before it gets cold.

zero degrees People in Miami cease to exist.... Mainers lick the flagpole.

-20 below Californians fly away to Mexico.... People in Maine get out their winter coats.

-40 below Hollywood disintergrates..... The girl scouts in Maine begin selling cookies door to door.

-60 below Polar bears begin to evacuate Antarctica.... Maine's Boy Scouts postpone "Winter Survival" classes until it gets cold enough.

-80 below Mt. St. Helen's freezes... People in Maine get to go ice skating or skiing.

-100 below Santa Claus abandons the North Pole..... Maine-iacs get frustrated when they can't thaw the keg.

-297 below Microbial life survives on dairy products.... Cows in Maine complain of farmers with cold hands.

-460 below ALL atomic motion stops..... People in Maine start saying..."Cold 'nuff for ya?"

-500 below Hell freezes over...... The Boston Bruins win the Stanley Cup!

They would have to plaster the state of florida with signs. It is a hazzard anywhere in Florida and many other states. It is a shame your son had to go through it but unless there is unusal animal activity such as a concentration for some unknown reason I see no need for signs. I don't ever remember seeing an alligator sign other than maybe a generic don't feed the wildlife.

There are snakes in almost every state. We've seen them at POR on several ocassions and they are afraid of people. I think I've actually read posts where people have found them in their resort room but they really won't hurt you unless you taunt them.

The same applies to alligators. They are natural to Florida and people live with them every day. Posting signs really won't make a difference.

We've driven all over the US, and the only signs we've seen anywhere are the ones they post at the Gulf Coast (and probably other beaches) for dangerous marine life (mostly red tide and jellyfish) and the signs we saw along the road in the desert. The desert signs had a rather cryptic warning against leaving the roadway due to "dangerous wildlife," which left us more confused than informed!

We have poisonous snakes here in Missouri. Water moccasins, copper heads, rattlesnakes. I've never seen a sign to that effect anywhere in the state. Doesn't mean there aren't any signs, at camp grounds for instance, but I've never noticed them.

I think we need to be proactive and educate ourselves when it comes to any new location or situation. We can't have a sign for every possible danger, the world would be littered with signs!
