I was just wondering if anyone just goes to DL for a churro, dole whip or similar and some people watching without going on any of the rides. Sounds like fun to me, but I live in Australia so wouldn't have time to do just this. :goodvibes

I never have before, but I plan to on my next trip (in less than five weeks!). In previous trips I've been with my family and attempted to cram in as many rides as possible in our limited time (we live in Oklahoma, and I don't have a ton of vacation time from work).

I'm going to Disneyland alone in the beginning of December (for my birthday), and one of the things that I'm most looking forward to is getting a cup of hot chocolate, and crowd watching as it snows after the fireworks. I'm also going to plan more down time in general. I want to take a lot of photos, mosey through the shops, and just soak up the atmosphere more than I ever have before.

Where are you in Australia? I grew up in Perth. :)

ME! welll..kinda. Every trip on our last night..after disneyland is closed..and Main Street remains open.. we go to the blue ribbon bakery and get two hot chocolates, which are actually quite good, and sit out at the tables and people watch. We take in the sights and sounds of Main Street and think about what fun we had on our trip and what we want to do next time! It's a tradition and has been for as long as I can remember!

Many AP holders do this since they can visit the parks in a more leisurely manner. If you take away the rides, the parks offer terrific gardens, fantastic architecture, and lots of entertainment in the little shows. Plus lots of people to watch.

I agree. I have driven down to DL just for the home made fudge. That was when they still had the candy shop in Frontierland (that is now a pin shop).

We also meet up with other passholder friends, bring our stale cereal and feed the ducks where the old boat ride used to be in Fantsyland. It is fun to just sit back and watch all the people. It always make me laugh how most people go to experience the attractions.... we go to feed the ducks:lmao:

We have lived in Adelaide for the last 6 years, but before that we lived in Sydney. What took you to Oklahoma?

Have an awesome time with your solo trip! I am going to do a solo trip in February 2013 hopefully. :goodvibes

That sounds like such a great tradition! We have a first day, first ride tradition and on our last night we did all our shopping along Main Street. DH and I were discussing your tradition and we have now decided that shopping along Main Street late on our last day will become our last day/night tradition. Thanks so much for sharing as this idea will add even more fun to our trip! :goodvibes

An Aussie here as well!!:yay:

On our last trip we had our 10 month old DD. I was more than happy to skip almost all the rides except the ones she was able to come on with us. I sat with her in the pram and soaked in the atmosphere... had a few extra snacks:woohoo: and people watched.

I get something to eat at RBT and just sit there and enjoy the sights, sounds,
and smells.

You just described some of my very best DL visits, except I prefer a pretzel. :goodvibes

When you live nearby, DL becomes like your local park. Instead of sitting by the duck pond and watching people on the swings and climbing structures, I sit in the Hub and watch people coming and going from Main Street and all the lands, all the while enjoying the music. :)

:rotfl: this so sounds like something I would do if I lived nearby. When Krispy Kremes first came to Australia their Head Office was about 5 minutes drive from my house and let me assure you it received regular visits until we moved to another State which currently does not have Krispy Kremes :sad2

This sounds very relaxing Jack. I might have to try this next time.

What a great way to think of DL! I'm very jealous ;)

We do this regularly. Sometimes the entire day is spent moving from land to land, choosing a different spot to sit and people watch. It really is such a peaceful, pleasing place to be. When we see a rattled family trying to get so much in and they don't look like they are having fun, I always want to walk over and sit them down to relax and take it all in.:goodvibes

I live about 30 minutes away from Disneyland and have a PAP. I visit the parks at LEAST once a month, and recently it has been as much as once or twice a week. I like to go to the parks for an hour or two (or ten), mosey around, park myself somewhere and people watch, find a family that is taking pictures (and you know someone is always missing from the picture to be the "photographer") and offer to take a WHOLE family picture, etc. Like the PP said, Disneyland (or Disney World) kind of becomes your local park when you are able to go so often. It no longer requires running around commando style trying to hit up all the rides, attractions and shows but allows you to stop and smell the flowers, watch the people and take in all the wonderful scenery that was created specifically for the "show" of Disney parks.
I definitely can NOT complain about living close to Walt's original park. I feel like it is my home away from home and that I am blessed to be where I am.

We do this with WDW all the time. Its great to have APs and not feel pressured to ride anything...

DL on the other hand is a 5+ hour plane ride, so yeah... we'll be going for the rides LOL!!!!

Not on purpose. I'm forced to do this for about 30 minutes to an hour after I've gotten a decent spot for the parade.

Churro cravings are a beast

That they are. I've met people who would go and do their homework at Disneyland (I went to undergrad at California State University Northridge). I don't think I'd ever have the patience to do that, but I have gone to DTD to people-watch and even did some work once over a takeaway dinner at Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen Express.

Our group usually plans one party night then the next day is a recovery day and that often ends up being a no-ride day for our poor heads, often strolling around the park and spending time at the resort pool. ;)
This year on the recovery day my DBF and I wandered into the park to get ST fastpasses we hoped we'd feel well enough to use in the evening, and it was raining which meant most rides were closed anyways. The great part was they had more characters for pictures due to the rain so we got some great ones with Darth Vadar and Darth Maul where we're drenched, tired, red-eyed, but having the time of our lives.
