Snacks on Dining plan

We just returned on wednesday, and wanted to share something that happened to us.

At check out, we received our bill, and there were 5 snacks on there, that we asked to be put on the dining plan as a snack... we were VERY specific about this all week, but they were just charged to the KTTW card instead. The front desk was able to change it all for us, but just wanted to give a heads up, to make sure you are VERY CLEAR when handing over the KTTW card and that they fully understand. And CHECK YOUR BILL clearly. The front desk can make those changes for you!!!

Glad you got it changed over.

While it has never happened to us (thank goodness), mistakes do happen and it is important to check your receipt asap.

I have heard reports of not only snacks being charged to the room but meals as well. So it is good you posted a reminder to check that receipt!!

Some guests go so far as to use a key card that has not been approved for room charges (usually a child's card) to pay for dining plan meals and snacks. That way there's no mistake.

That's a great idea!!:thumbsup2

Wow never thought about that happening, I normally leave a cc for chargeing, but I think this trip I might not leave a cc to charge on my KTTW card just to be on the safe side.

That's why I strongly encourage everyone not only to check their bill at the end of stay, but also to avoid that happening by carefully checking each individual receipt for food/beverage as your receive it.

The receipt should say...for example - remaining Snack credits: 20.

And since you knew the last receipt said '21', you know they just subtracted a snack.

This way you can identify if this is happening right at that moment and get it cleared up.

I do this.

That happened to us with entire meals. We were able to get it all taken care of. BUT, from that stay on, we don't leave a credit card on the account. That way, we guarantee no mistakes. Besides, we don't find it that difficult to crack out a credit card for purchases.

That is what I am thinking using the cc for purchases seems like a lot less of a hastle than having to have them correctly credit the meals etc once they have charged them incorrectly to cc on KTTW card instead of using DP credits. This will be our first time ever using the DP so we never had to worry about it before.

I usually keep track of the credits we have left and check each receipt to make sure I wasn't charged but I like this idea too. Thanks for the tip.

This is what we do. The second year we used the DDP we had several problems with CMs charging the room key for full meals instead of the DDP. Since then when we check in, we always ask that one room key not have charging priviledges (although we seldom allow room charging for any of the keys anymore). Right on the front of it, it says 'Not Valid for Charging'. That's the key we'd use for all meals. Unfortunately I also go to WDW solo several times a year and use the DDP. For those trips I just don't get charging priviledges on the room key and use either a credit card or Disney gift card in the park if I want anything. I also check the receipt after each meal or snack to make sure the amount remaining is correct.

I like having everything paid for in advance, so really prefer to use a Disney gift card rather than a credit card or the room key anyway. I hate having a credit card bill to pay when I get home. lol I always get a gift card for more than I think I'll need, so like having some money left over to spend on my next trip. Anytime you use a gift card the receipt shows the amount remaining, so it's easy to make sure they took off the correct amount and to know how much you have left. I use a gift card for tips, souvineers, and OOP meals and use the room key only for DDP credits. That way I have a zero balance on my credit card when I get home.

We usually have one room key that's not valid for charging, just cause we have had the experience where they just charge it to the room. It makes it really easy that way since, we don't have to worry if the cm is charging us the right charges.

Actually one incident at Cape May the server actually try to charge the room, he asked us at the beginning of the meal if we were on the dining plan, we said yes. At the end of the meal, he takes our card and come back and says that it didn't work. We told him to take it off our dining credits lol, than he kind of clued in, kind of weird since it says right on the card not valid for charging. So if we didn't give him the room card that didn't have charging, he would have charge us for the meal instead of taking the dining credit.
