We're sitting here trying to figure out what foods would be a good idea to pack for snacks for excursions and stuff...we're figuring that meals might be few and far between-or at least not in the schedule of medication that I have to take with food...if I get hungry there is heck to pay!!! :)

Are raisins contraband? How about trail mix with dried fruit? Cheese and crackers? How about dried fruit...
Waht are some of the things that everyone has brought-easy to pack...

A friend of mine gave me a great idea to be able to pack stuff from home...use a pencil case..or small rubbermaid container...that way things won't get squished! I have mine ready to pack! its small and compact and will fit a number of goodies...

thanks for your input!

I think it's a good idea to bring along some pre-packaged stuff for excursions. Trail mix would be perfect since it doesn't mash easily. Granola bars or individual bags of peanuts would also be good.

Be careful not to bring too much 1) because you really won't want/need it on the ship, and 2) you cannot bring opened food back into the US.

Onboard the ship you'll find things that would also do: Individual cereals or apples from the breakfast buffet, individual bags of chips from Pluto's Doghouse, chocolate chip cookies or brownies from room service or the afternoon snack cart near the drink station.

More importantly than snacks, I'd recommend bottled water. You can refill them at the drink station on deck 9, so there's really no need for more than one per person. This will save you big bucks.

Although many of the things mentioned were healthy, I would encourage you to bring sandwich bags...there are snacks everywhere but not all are prepackaged...one of the best suggestions I got was to get a bowl of m and ms and marshmellows from scoops (they are the toppings for the ice cream) and bring that to the movies for snacks...(of course, I brought the contents of the cheese platter, I meant for the kids) the snack shop outside of walt disney theater is tempting and can easily add up

There are no restrictions on what you can take on shore excursions EXCEPT in the US. You cannot bring any sort of fresh fruit or meat into any US territory. This obviously includes Key West and US Virgin Islands.

Cheese and crackers or protein bars would be fine. Most/many shore excursions include food or drinks if they last more than a few hours. I guess the key would be to bring sealed packages of trail mix, dried fruit, etc. Once the packages are opened, they can't re-enter the US.

I brought snacks for my son, but never used them. We were NEVER hungry on the cruise. The food was plentiful, sometimes I was soo stuffed I had to skip meals. The tip the OP mentioned about the ziploc bags is a great one. I brought some and I did use those. We saved cookies from room service, etc...

Heck, why stop at the snacks? We got sandwiches from room service, along with the yummy chocolate chip cookies (best ever!)

They did seem a little confused as to why I ordered turkey sandwiches to be brought at 7:30 in the morning.

Oh well.

those were a lot of great ideas!!!..I like the marshmello/m&m idea for the theater...I think I'm gonna get some stuff that BF likes in bulk and make him his own little baggies of snacks...we are big movie buffs...and I really dont want to add to the expense of having to buy movie snacks. I'm not worried about food on the ship-I was more worried about excursions and stuff...or on our 3 days on land...I have to snack in between meals-otherwise I get grumpy...and I don't want to be grumpy! but now that you mention it...marshmellos really do sound good!!!yes at 0644 AM!!!!
I'll have to get some juju fruits for the movies...BF's favorite!

On one of our St. Thomas excursions we ordered some sandwiches and cookies from room service also. Pack a soft sided (lunch box size) cooler and take it along with you.

So if we have snacks in our room open when we arrive back at the port we have to toss them?? I guess I don't have plan to bring a lot of snack, but that is interesting.. What if they are indiviual wrapped?

M&Ms from Scoops as movie snacks! Brilliant! For the benefit of those who have not been on the cruise yet: You would have to plan ahead to do this. Scoops isn't always open. I don't remember its exact hours, but it's an afternoon type of place.

As for the turkey sandwiches from room service, you can have them. I'm not overly picky, but I found them downright nasty. They're served on very small hard onion rolls -- very oniony rolls -- very, very oniony rolls -- is there any turkey here? 'cause all I can taste is onion rolls. They also had mayo on the bread AND they sent along some may packets. I think all may-o is yuck-o. Next time I'd grab a wrap sandwich from Scoops and keep in in our cooler. That's much more to my taste!

Finally, if your food is OPEN, it can't come back in the US. So a half-eaten big package of chips or cookies would have to go in the trash. Individual bags, however, are not open food -- I believe they'd be fine to bring back. I think the key is not to over-pack. Onboard you'll have all the food you'll want. Just bring a little for excursions.

You do not need to bring a thing. If you need a snack, call room service or ask your waiters. They will bring you anything you need, at whatever hour.

Dont bring much- the only thing you wont find much of is candy or gum. The room service / plastic sandwich bags did the trick for us. We ordered enough peanut butter/ jelly sandwiches for the kids and they worked great. They were the premade ones that smuckers sells in the freezer section.

I have learned a lot from this thread!
Bring baggies, first and foremost. Got it.
Order room service to take food on excursions. Brilliant!
M&M's from scoops... ooh, I like!

I have a related question about snacks- do any of the stores on the ship sell those Goofy gummy bears? (well, gummy mickey shapes or whatever they are- but I DON'T mean the gummy hamburger shaped ones)- like the ones they sell at stores at WDW.
??
Cause if they do.. boy I'm set- those things make my youngest happy no matter WHAT has her mad/upset/etc. LOL
Just curious- cause if they don't, I probably need to buy some at WDW before the cruise and bring with...

My twin 9 DSs carefully examined all of the candy contents outside the WS theater and a little less in the stores and I don't remember seeing goofy gummies...it is a relatively limited selection...mostly things like push pops, sour lickers (those roll on things), prepackaged cotton candy and popcorn...all for an "appropriate" disney price.

We went in July and bringing candy to the ship was out of the question in my mind - too hard to keep unmelted, etc... but it is the one thing that you notice that is missing.

BTW - the m&M idea was not mine, after an expensive trip to the candy counter before seeing finding nemo in the walt (the place to see it), we sat down to see the little girl behind us happily munching on m&ms, marshmellos and other goodies - needless to say, Pirates of the C later that week was less costly!

Barbara

PS - you didn't mention the age of your little ones but something that goes with snacks is juice and you can get it free from room service - I wasn't sure but we were able to do it several times - comes in a glass with plastic wrap on it - perfect to save in the fridge for later

I'm in agreement with.. baggies.. seem to make movies and excursions less expensive..

What about soda??? Do they have soda at the movies?? If so, can we just bring some from the room??

If you are on the soda package, you can get your mug filled right outside the theatre. If you have canned drinks in your room, you can take them along either in a mug or in a can. Yes, it's nice for the kids to have something to drink already in their hand when the servers are trying to sell smoothies at $3 each!

When they sell smoothies, CMs walk through the isles and seats with a tray filled with glasses before the show - very tempting for kids (ok, everyone)
Bringing a drink in solves the empty hand problem!

I think the gummy "bears" are sold in the "gift shop" (Mickey's Mates or something). I bought bags on my September cruise to bring home. Just be careful, like Scoops, the operating hours are in the evenings or at sea. I also have a toddler/preschooler & I always (watch me forget it next time) travel with a sippy cup or two. Good for taking juice etc along anywhere. The ones I prefer these days are the insulated ones that hold at least 9 ounces (so we can all have a sip!)
