If I have a 3 day park hopper in hand but want to upgrade to an AP, can I do it before I arrive, or can I only do it once I'm at the park? And if I can do it now, can I use gift cards or must it be through credit card?

Speaking of gift cards paying for things - if I want to pay for a tour in advance, is it only through credit card, or can I use a gift card?

Are the cards for the map of Pirate's Island still given out throughout NOS? If so, where can we find them? I'll be there over Halloween time so I don't know if they'll still be there or not.

I would check for blackout dates during your trip before upgrading. You’ll need to go to the ticket window to upgrade it once you get there. You don’t have to do it until your last day of admission, so I would just do it late one night when the lines are short.

I do believe you can call and pay for a tour with a GC but I have not personally tried.

No idea about Pirate’s Island, sorry!

Do you want to use your MM? If so, do it before you upgrade since APs do not get a MM.
We almost always have at least a few gift cards when we get APs at the ticket booths. There is no limit to how many you can use at the booths, but it will be easier for you (if you have many cards) to combine your gift cards into one or into just a few.
We last got a few Pirate's Island map cards earlier in the year, which surprised us because we didn't think the cards were still available. Don't know if the cards are still around, but it can't hurt to ask when you arrive. They aren't on display -- you have to ask at the registers.

FYI...We upgraded on day one of our 5 day PH which was a blackout day. We were able to use it that blackout day only. The advantage being that we could then use our AP discount throughout the trip. I asked about our MM and the CM kindly gave us a pass to use during our stay for one day. It's not a guarantee but doesn't hurt to ask.

Yes, take advantage of your MM and ticket if there are AP blackout dates when you are staying. Upgrade to the AP on your last day, and use your discount to go shopping on the last day (if you can wait )

Big Thunder BBQ closing definitely hits a sore spot in our family. Just yesterday DH was talking about how he's still upset they closed it. And how it was the only meal worth value in the park, best food, etc.
We avoid the topic when we can.
