how much of an issue is this?

does it cause a problem with asthmatic families?

do people really smoke while waiting in line and watching parades?

I'd hate to be waiting in line or watching a parade and have to leave due to other people's smoke around children..

I mainly notice it more as a major problem at weekends. Yes people do smoke while waiting in line and watching parades and in the evening while waiting and during Dreams! In my experience if you ask nicely they normally put it out.

I've just watched our first Christmas Dreams tonight (a Monday) and there were people smoking in front of us (a father with child in stroller), behind us and on either side while we waited which was horrible! I've given up asking people to stop now as there are just so many and just put up with it in a sort of holding my breath and constantly trying to turn away from it sort of way. Dreams was wonderful but why do people have to be so inconsiderate? :confused3

nasty - I just hope it doesn't cause the wee one's asthma to flare up.

its bad enough having to be alert to foods etc due to anaphylaxis, we also must try to dodge folks smoking too. Wish DLRP could put an end to this issue!

I did notice a lot of smoking in the park last week, but it was quite easy to avoid those people for the most part. The only time I was really bothered by it was when a mother with two young children was chain smoking next to us while we were waiting for the parade. It didn't even occur to me to ask her to stop.
It would be great if disney would enforce the smoking areas properly.

I've been there and seen no one smoke. I've been there and everyone smoked particularly waiting for Dreams. Unfortunately I had to stay in bed through the next morning because of asthma this brought on. I really think this NEEDS to be stamped out. Next time I'm taking a face mask for myself. Might be worth considering?

was there last week. Smoking in the que, smoking at Dreams and even smoking in the tunnel behind main street.

And you cant walk in the door of a Hotel without walking through a cloud of sick smelling smoke.

Im an ex smoker and even when did smoke I would not do it around other people.

It needs to be stamped out.

Perhaps we should start something calling for Disney to enforce a non smoking policy in the Parks.

I agree, it seemed particularly bad this weekend. We even saw some adults smoke in the scrum around Stitch in the Studios.

I kept saying that on my previous trips this year I hardly saw anyone smoke, max. 2 people (OK, doesn't mean that somewhere else in the park someone isn't smoking, lol).

But last Friday, I noticed a lot more people.

To be honest, I grew up in a house with 2 very badly smoking parents, so it doesn't bother me at all.
London city on the other hand ... lol, black stuff even comes out of your nose, lol.
(I'm just saying, if you can't handle a cigarette's smoke, you might not be able to handle a big busy city, not to be mean or step on anyone tows, just my opinion on it)

There already is, but what you have said is exactly the problem and why nobody takes any notice. The non smoking policy is not made anywhere clear enough - the designated smoking zones are not clearly signposted. CMs don't enforce it due to lack of manpower and fear of confrontation, so in the end people smoke anywhere and everywhere.

Philipe Gas apparently seemed concerned at the Shareholder meeting in London but we are yet to see any action taken. I'd imagine establishing just how to enforce it with budget constraints and not wanting to take away from the magic with lots of signs is quite tricky.

For those interested, DLRPMagic has a page dedicated to smoking in DLP which shows where you can smoke: http://www.dlrpmagic.com/planning/practicalities/smoking/

yeah we would avoid such cities like the plague. though id have hoped that in a theme park smoke would be easier to avoid.

poor you, asthma is awful though more so when it spoils part of your holiday. though lucky that you were able to continue with the holiday :)

have you found face masks to help?

sad that this situation could be avoided if only certain smokers could be more considerate (I know they aren't all bad) and DLRP could 'police' the no smoking policy better.

Everytime a thread gets opened about smoking, it only seems to be going about DLRP.

How about the other parks, how about other funparks, how about walking on the street, or going shopping in your own town and walking down the shopping street where loads of people are walking and smoking.

They are all outside places, maybe at a funpark it can be banned because it's a domain, but what do you do when you have to go shopping? Stay indoors, because there's a slight chance you might walk down the street and someone passes you by or starts walking next to you with a cigarette?

Not being rude here, typing this in a very calmly way, but it seems like it's only a problem at DLRP like being discussed, while smoking is simply *everywhere* outside in the open air.

There are smoking spots at the park.

Thing is, even regular visitors don't really know because it's not being enforced like it should, I've never seen a CM pull out a map saying "here, here and here you can go please".
And other guests, who only visit once in a lifetime, I highly doubt they will look up this information.

The reason smoking at DLP is being discussed here is because this is a DLP forum - no doubt in the parks and shopping centre forums they are discussing smoking there.

:confused3

I have never found smoking a problem and every time I read other peoples comments about it being everywhere I think am I visiting a different park to them lol. I am a non smoker, I hate smoke and am sensitive to the smell of it.

It is easily avoided, sure people walk around smoking but you can move away from them. I've never had anyone smoke near us watching the parade, in ques for rides etc.

I mostly go to DLP in the off seasons, and during the week it is not a problem. I only ever notice it at weekends when there are more day visitors to the parks.

You are right smoking is an issue everywhere. Esp if there are folks standing at entrances to places etc smoking. Unfortunately we can't 'live in a bubble'. But my worry is more the fact people standing watching a parade, or a show or in line where its not as easy to 'walk away' or 'avoid'. That is completely unacceptable. We are used to avoiding smokers and other allergens whenever we are out and about. But it would be easier if everyone was that little bit more understanding and considerate of others.
