Does BCV provide smoking rooms on each of the five floors or do they only have smoking rooms on designated floors? I would like to request a floor that is designated non-smoking so that the possibility of someone smoking on the next balcony is reduced. Thanks.

I believe that the smoking rooms are on the 4th floor. With that said, unfortunately, there is not guarantee that the people in the room next to you won't smoke out on their balcony. There is no policy about smoking on balconies, and some CMs actually encourage it. Some families with smokers, who don't want to stay in a smoking room, intentionally request non-smoking rooms with plans to use the balcony as a smoking area. Also, smoke blows up and down as well as sideways... On one of our stays, we had two human chimneys who hung out on the balcony next door to us, rendering our balcony unusable for most of our stay :(.

Yes, I think that's right about the 4th floor. However, don't think, as I used to, that the entire 4th floor is smoking. There are nonsmoking rooms on the 4th floor. And at least for this nonsmoker assigned there, there was no smoke smell in the hall or in my room.

Only a section of the 4th floor is designated smoking optional. I always request non-smoking and I have not gotten a smoking room yet at BCV nor have I had rude neighbors smoking on their balconies.

I think for the most part people follow the rules. It's just that you sure hear about it here on the DIS when people don't.

When all the controversy about room assignments arose, I was told by a CM that they try to fulfill at least of one of the quest request. I thought that if I didn’t have to request a non-smoking room and just requested a fifth floor room I could get both (non-smoking and fifth floor) with just the one request. I haven’t seen anything on the criteria of room assignments from DVC except the “room ready” policy. If they would only say what is a “standard” room, (ie smoking/non-smoking, handicap/non-handicap) then the guest “special” request could be minimized to floor, view, smoking, handicap and location if any are desired. All my request consist of non-smoking, non-handicap and a floor and they always fulfill one request, the non-smoking, but then most of the rooms are non-smoking so the fulfilling of one request is no problem for the room assigners.
