:fish::sunny:Very excited for upcoming EBPC in October, first time on DCL. We booked port side deck 7 balcony, but just found out 2 decks up on port side and 3 down are smoking areas. We are allergic, and quit booking HAL due to smoking allowed on all balconies (wish they could have one side non-smoking). Anyway, should I try to switch to starboard? Has anyone experienced smoke issues on balconies, deck 7 port on the Wonder? is starboard side on EBPC in the shade (worried about being cold on sea days)?

Thank you in advance for any advice.

No smoking is not an issue even when they had smoking on the ships.

I have asthma and I have never had any issue with any room, a lot have bene deck 8 starboard on the classics.

The ship speed and wind blow it away, and whilst you say you maybe in the shade we often find that 50% of the day your in the shade and 50% in the sun. As the sun moves during the day.

But whilst you get some shade its always warm, we only found it cool at night in Alaska and your far south of that.

I have done three Panama crossings a great cruise and a lot is North/South so that will mean 50/50 sun and shade each day. You will be glad of the shade the sun is powerful at Panama.

The last cruise we were on (Fantasy) smoking was still allowed on the balconies. It was a problem for us as someone within our area smoked on their balcony. We are port side deck 6 on the Wonder, and I am hoping that the smoking area doesn't infringe on our fresh air.

I was under the impression smoking was banned on verandahs for a year or so now? It was on the Magic last year.

According to DCL website, no smoking on balconies, but allowed on open air deck 9 and deck 4 on Port side only for the Wonder... So, we were worried about it blowing around our deck!

Yes no smoking on the verandahs but the smoke on the top deck 9 blows off the ship. Yes near it on deck 9 it smells but it does not effect the stateroom verandahs at all, the ship forward motion creates a breeze and it blows off.

Do not worry about it, it is not an issue unless you are on deck 9 near the smoking area then you can notice it.

Deck 9 is also generally enclosed by glass so it cant go out and down, it has to go up and out.

Good point, I didn't think that one through!

Yes, we were on the Fantasy two years ago. The ban went into effect after our cruise. The OP was referring to the location of the smoking section on the Wonder and their veranda. That is a valid concern, but I don't have an answer or least I won't for three+ weeks.

Yes aware they were referring to the Wonder, and the ban came in quite some time ago. No need for concern there will be zero chance of any issue on the stateroom location.

It's not the whole deck that is a smoking section, but small parts.

You might encounter smoking on their balconies. Some people think that smoke always blows off to sea. Sigh, if only. If someone is on their balcony smoking, report it and hope it gets taken care of.

Try to learn the locations of the smoking sections and avoid them.

I thought smoking was was starboard side forward deck 9 and 10 on the Wonder. And after 6pm deck 4 starboard.

Good catch!

From the DCL website:

Q:Where can I smoke on board?
A: Disney Cruise Line has never allowed smoking in Guest staterooms. In addition, smoking is prohibited in all interior spaces throughout our ships and beginning November 15, 2013, smoking will be prohibited on stateroom verandahs. In an effort to provide a cruise experience that satisfies both our non-smoking and smoking Guests, smoking (including the use of electronic cigarettes) is only permitted in designated areas of the ship.

On the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder, smoking is permitted on:

  • Outdoors on Deck 4 starboard side from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. only
  • The starboard side of decks 9 and 10 in the Quiet Cove area
