Smoking in the parks

Disney is creating this problem they keep moving and reducing smoking areas. If they want people to smoke in designated areas they need to quit reducing them and moving them

I think if they are easy to find more would use them but if you make it harder to find people just say the hell with it and light up. I remember a few earlier trips they were always in the same places, then all of a sudden they were moved the next trip. Looking on the map didn't help in some cases. Disney has created this problem, not international visitors. Like it or not people still smoke and most of us will gladly smoke in designated areas when they are available.

There also was one back by Tony's/the hat shop just off Town Square.

The one outside The Chappeau was removed in 2012. I used to love that one. I have to admit though, it was a weird place to put it. It was almost right in the doorway to the store?!!?! See these are the things that cause problems. It sometimes seemed like they just saw an empty spot and thought "That will do. It will take a trashcan." :confused3

It doesn't happen too often but to the ops point once in while you see some dufus who just lights up wherever. The nerve of some people. I'd be way too nervous to try that, no matter how bad I'm jonesing. Not trying to advocate breaking any rules, but any "vaper" knows it's much easier to take a discretionary drag of one of those than it is a cigarette.

Isn't there still a DSA in Frontier land near the walkway by the water? I thought I used that one last summer.

No, it was moved back into the corner. It was there in Oct if last year .

Actually, it (Bicycle Gate area north of Tony's) is not a designated smoking area. Guests just use it as one, just as they use the other side by the Barber Shoppe hoping not to get caught. Has not been on the map for well over a year and there are no designated smoking areas in the Town Sq. area. Closest is the Plaza Landing.

Not a smoker here, but the Plaza location, at least on the linked map, appears to be gone.

I was just at MK Friday and the map is wrong which makes it hard to find the DSA. They indicate the one behind the castle but that areas all boarded off and they don't show the area on the path on the left (from adventureland) leading up to the castle. They seem to do things so much better in the newer parks. Even Epcot has a pretty good set up. The DSAs all seem to be off to one side and out of the way.

We also have a hard time finding them since they move around a lot. I like the one beside Space Mt though. My kids can sit on the bench where I can see them and I can go to the back of the area and not worry about them being around smoke. Usually we trade off stopping in a spot if we find one so the kids are around the gang of smokers.

They may have moved it up to the stairs on the East side because of construction walls on the West end. Usually there will be a sign on the ramp if they did. Not sure as haven't been back down for about 3 weeks and didn't look when I was. Might not have "made the map" at this time due to the ongoing construction in that area.

I've recently stopped smoking cigarettes by using an e-cig/vap. Have also been curious of the policy. I don't have a problem with being away from others per say, and or non intrusive, but I really don't want to be grouped in with the second hand smoke either. I quit real ones for a reason:rolleyes2 . Our trip is in August so I don't foresee a huge problem as I use my vap a lot less that I ever smoked and feel I'll be off nicotine "juice" by then anyway. Just another perspective...

I was just thinking about this issue. I agree that it would be great if Disney could find a way to help encourage those who have quit by not grouping them in with smokers and putting temptation right in their faces.

Even our local Six Flags has separate sections for smokers and E-cigs. I just got an E-cig (which I enjoy) and I can see how being grouped with regular smokers can be "distracting".
