Smoking Ban

I have reported smokers before and the CM marched over and took care of it. We were waiting for Illuminations and a group lit up right behind us.

Good to know. I will not ignore it if I see it.

I quit 10 months ago. This is a good decision. Even when I smoked I was getting tired of reporting people for smoking outside the DSAs. I’m sure the CMs will be relieved as well.

So I just informed my husband of the new ban and his response was I could just light up and walk through. I said you could get kicked out and he said if I get caught.

Like I said this ban has no real affect on mr (my husband doesn't come with me often anyway) but I'm not convinced it's going to solve the problems if people being exposed to smoke outside the designated areas. I actually think it will get worse.

Hmmm... "outside the park" ... Does this mean the area around security is going to turn into a giant smoke cloud?

I think it says designated areas outside so smokers still can’t anywhere outside but I don’t see where those designated areas will be that they won’t affect others. I also agree people won’t follow this. If they don’t now why will they after unless the rule becomes more strict. They need to stop just politely asking them to put the cigarette out and start kicking people out of the parks.

I do smoke but have never ever smoked outside a designated area and I won’t now. I’ll be fine because I usually don’t smoke much when I’m down anyways cause the spots were so far away but other people. I don’t know. It will be interesting to see how they handle this.

I don't think we will be walking through a cloud of smoke to get into any of the parks. Disney will have the designated smoking area far enough away so it doesn't impact the healthy wholesome image they want to project. I do foresee a few random smokers spread all over the parks since some smokers will not want to walk all the way to the entrance.

Not only do they confine the smoke, they have filter systems built in to limit the effects. Always wondered why Disney didn't invest in them and use their great experience of making things blend in to their surroundings.

Probably because it's a lot cheaper to just tell people to leave the park if they want to smoke.

Not to mention it avoids the possibility of standing in line next to someone who has been inside of one of those smoke boxes for 5 minutes...

I am very happy about this new rule, especially if it will be enforced. Disney should not have to build anything or set aside space for others to promote a bad habit. Our last trip, my youngest fell asleep on the way to Dumbo, I was carrying her and decided to stop in a quiet area with tables. Sure enough, it was close to a smoking area so we had to move so others could be unhealthy. Ridiculous. Glad this is happening and if smokers no longer come to Disney, sounds good. Wish they'd extend the no smoking at all to resort hotels as well. The entire campus should be smoke free.

I'm fine with this ban - I quit smoking 6 years ago.

But I won't shout with glee nor show disdain for smokers by complaining about their bad habits.

I have something called empathy and I know how hard it is to quit and I know how much you sometimes hated yourself because you NEEDED that smoke because of your addiction.

This doesn’t surprise me. Society has made cigarette smoking extremely taboo due to the heath effects (rightfully so) and imo it was only a matter of time until this was going to happen

Yeah, the quick smokes in the bathroom stall will be bain of existence for many I fear.

Thank you Disney! Let us not forget that Walt was a longtime smoker and died of lung cancer. Of course there will be no stopping the vapers, who really think the rules don't apply to them because their smoke isn't as smelly.

Except now some smokers will say "eh I'll just leave for the day" instead of reentry and walking back to where they were before. So they won't be in the parks spending money.

This will be a good thing as long as they enforce it. I don't typically see them enforcing the current smoking areas, as I've seen people smoking all over.

This is true, but for me part of the problem has also been the placement of the smoking areas, even when smokers have followed the rules and stayed within the designated areas it can be unpleasant for non-smokers. Epcot WS is especially terrible for this - oftentimes during F&W or F&G we've wandered over to an area to eat around the world only to find that it's a smoking area, since they are right off the main path. And recently (not at a park) but staying at ASM, heading to our room every time we had to walk basically through a cloud of smoke, as the smoking area is right along the path between the main building and the Toy Story rooms.

I'm fine with this, but my bf is a smoker. I'm assuming smokers will need to go back through security to re-enter the park. If he doesn't take a bag out with him, will it be quicker for him to get back in through the bag-free security line? I'm just worried he's going to lose a lot of time waiting in line to get back in.
