Smoking at AKL

Hi all,

We're planning our third trip to AKL for December, this time with my mother-in-law, who is a smoker. She typically doesn't smoke in the house-- only on her porch, or on the balcony when staying at the hotel . We were planning to reserve savanna view rooms, but obviously that won't work, because she'll want to smoke on the balcony, even if there are smoking rooms with a savanna view. She wants us to have close if not adjoining rooms, so it looks like we're all going to have to settle for pool view or standard view -- I'm assuming smoking on the balcony is allowed in these rooms? And if not, what other smoking areas are there at AKL? I was wondering too whether we could request a pool or standard view room for her and a savanna view for us within a couple doors of each other, but maybe that would be too complicated. Smoking is not allowed on the balconies at AKL. There are two places to smoke. Outside of Mara (the food court) and right outside the door of the shop.

We were assigned a smoking room on our last trip. We do not smoke, but it wasn't smoky nor did I remember to request non-smoking so we kept it. Both of the guests on each side of us smoked on their balconies. It was annoying, because we had to shut our sliding door, but we figured we were in the smoking rooms so they were allowed...no one stopped them. Also, there was a no feeding the animals sign, but no signs about no smoking on the balcony. I couldn't find it in print or I may have complained nicely.

Personally, I would keep your savanna view room. There is no smoking on any balcony at AKL. There are a handful of designated smoking areas around the resort. If they do allow smoking on the smoking room balconies, honestly, I'd stick her in that room and you go enjoy your view. It's really sad to see someone miss out on the best part of AKL because they are travelingw ith a smoker who is unreasonable. My SO smokes and he would never give up a good view at the AKL to smoke on the balcony.

Please don't flame me but my husband is an exsmoker now but on our previous trips he was a smoker ugh Anyhow, in the past we have had a smoking room at AKL and have always been told by all the CM's that you can smoke on the balcony of your room and in fact at check in we have always found ash trays on the balcony (clean) as well in the room and yes we had savanaha rooms. That being said my DH chose not to smoke on the patio due to the possibility of the ashes ect blowing onto the savanaha and he didn't want that to happen.

I have been trying to figure out where I could go to have a scotch and smoke a cigar. Did you find any such places? I'm not a cigarette smoker, but would love to smoke a cigar or two while I am there and enjoy a scotch. Everything I have read basically tells me to go ahead and leave my stogies at home. I just can't fathom why there wouldn't be a single bar area where you could smoke a cigar. oh well.

I'm confused as well Virtually all the Deluxes sell them.
I know you can smoke on the verandah at the GF, as well as Sosas in DTD.

After I posted my original message, I started thinking that I remembered there being ashtrays on the balcony table-- but I thought I imagined it or was remembering wrong. Well, thanks for assuring me that I'm not crazy! Maybe I was assuming there was no smoking allowed because it seems like common sense around the animals, but I don't actually remember reading it anywhere.

Well, in that case, smoke em if you got em.

As for people who want a drink and a smoke, Jellyrolls at Boardwalk allows indoor smoking.

There is an outdoor bar and cigar shop at Fulton's Crab House (Downtown Disney) that allows you to smoke cigars.

There are a couple of outdoor bars at Raglan Road at Downtown Disney that allow smoking, but don't know about cigars.

I was also just at ALK in a smoking Savannah view room & smoking is allowed on the balcony. There was an ashtray on the balcony table & my mousekeeper cleaned it daily.....

I spent quite a bit of time on the balcony & did see guests who were definately in non-smoking rooms, smoking on their balconies as well.....
