I am a non smoker with an allergy to cigarrette smoke and ITA with smokers only smoking in designated areas but, isn't this comment(along with a previous word used in an earlier post of yours) just a little harsh on a fellow diser?

I don't believe it is harsh...if you(not you in particular) go somewhere and you don't want to follow their rules, then go somewhere else...rules are made for the safety of yourself(again, not you in particular) and the safety of others.

curiouser-- lol nope same parks. I found Epcot to be the exception to the rule. Plenty of DSA's most likely due to the number of international visitors that flock there.



peter11435-- as posted above Epcot is the "exception". I don't think a "day-glow orange" trash can would be the way to go either. However, using a another color can or perhaps adding a contrasting color stripe to the existing ones would in No way "take away from the theming/atmosphere and be completely out of place. " Neither would placing a colored lens on one of the lights adjacent to the area.

If Disney's gonna crack the whip on this 'rule,' they should consider tightening the response to some of the other ones like the queue jumpers, pool hoppers, resort mug violators, ADR hogs, and most of all, the dark-ride-flash-photographers.

I think they should crack down on those policies too. And really they need to make a decision on outside food. Either don't allow it in or change your policy!

I personally feel that adding a colored lens to a light or a colored strip to a garbage can (which most are themed to their locations) would take away from the theming/atmosphere. Additionaly while Epcot does have the most smoking sections it should due to its size. The fact is that the point still stands. A DSA is never more than a short walk away. MGM for example has 10 DSA's, and is less than half the size of Epcot.

Florida is a nice place to visit, but I could not live there with all the wacky laws and politics. California neither, for the same reason.

While I agree these things are REALLY annoying, they do not harm anyone like walking around with a lit cigarette, with the exception of raising your blood pressure


I love some of the people who are adament smokers (my mother is one 4 packs a day at 69 y/o) I will not visit her because her house is so full of cigarette smoke that you can smell it from the front porch with the door closed. After 5 minutes in her house and you stink of butts all day. Because of her heavy smoking, she cannot walk very far, her circulation is bad..her ankles are swollen like grapefruits, her blood pressure is high, her face is pasty and she looks like an old catchers mitt - brown teeth and all and she STINKS to high heaven. Smoke comes out of her mouth even when she's not smoking (which is rare, but you can't smoke in a store) but, generally she needs to go for a break every 20 min. The only time she is not smoking is when she sleeps. She will not quit or go to the Dr...in fact she gets very, very nasty. I tell her to save her empty cigarette packs because I will make her coffin out of them.

Pretty disgusting, and it embarasses me.


So as you can see smoking is a pretty sore subject with me.

As far as the "theming" of the lighting, WDW is awash with lights of many colors. A colored lens inserted next to the ground adjacent to a DSA wouldn't be noticed unless you were looking for it.

Personally I feel the blue handicapped accessable markers for the restrooms detract from the overall "theme" of the parks and should be removed... along with the names of the attractions on the sides of the buildings. I mean there ARE maps for free all over the park and the attractions are ONLY a short walk from each other....

Additionally the lighting at WDW if you haven't noticed is very well planned. And I’m sorry but a green light near the ground on Main Street would stand out and look very out of place.

Also if you haven't noticed WDW signs are also themed to their locations. Thus the names of attractions are made to fit in. Also take note of the fact that the reason the "Twilight Zone Tower of Terror" only says "Hollywood Tower Hotel" one the building is to support the themeing. Additionally most WDW handicapped bathroom signs are not blue but rather are themed just like the other nearby bathroom signs.

I have nothing against smokers (I travel with some) or DSA. However I don’t see the need for lights and stripes to identify the areas. They are all clearly marked on the maps and not that hard to find.

To the best of my recollection (which granted, isn't saying much) the only DSA in the vicinity of Main Street is over by Tony's. I'm not advocating the lights suggestion, but really, how disruptive would a colored bulb there really be?

i guess i should weigh in on this smoking topic because i feel it is an issue. ask any smoker to ask a friend who doesnt smoke to if they could try an experiment on them, just blow some of your cigarette smoke in their face and see what happens. i can safely say that in a large majority of times the person who does not smoke will have a reaction to smoke and will start coughing. their system will react to the smoke and will try to expel it from their system. i know this is a real far fetched example to make a point about people who smoke in non-designated spaces. i do not want the smoke from your cigarette invading my lungs. are not a certain amount of carcinogens contained in second-hand smoke?

if you choose to smoke that is your right to do so but it is not your right to light up in areas that are designated as non- smoking areas. if i am walking in an area that has smokers i avoid that area. i will not i ask them to put out their cigarette beause i do not like cigarette smoke.


my DW smokes and she always goes to the smoking areas but this is where i see a few problems that many smokers here have echoed. the smoking areas are not easily found. we had maps and sometimes couldnt find the spot to smoke. often the only way we found the spot was by looking for the garbage cans that had the ash tray built on top of them. if there were larger signs or better designation of the smoking areas or larger smoking areas then maybe there wouldnt be so many people walking around WDW smoking.

what would make the CM's job easier in controlling this issue is if WDW would make up cards with the smoking policy written on them in different languages. this way in a non-combative and sort of secretive wasy they could just hand the smoker the card and ask them to read it.

BTW i love the law in NY that prohibits smoking in resturants.

I'm sorry if you're offended - but adult responses aren't always little rays of sunshine that come down from the clouds when you're feeling blue (yes I'm ripping that off from The Waterboy). As an adult, I can take it when I'm questioned/challenged on an opinion I may have, as should the other adult. We all have a right to express our opinions but I also realize that we can't all tiptoe around killing people with kindness and being politically correct all the time. Now, if I had yelled a slew of obscenities at you (in all caps or something to that effect) that would be nasty. However as an adult, I can take it that you perceive me as nasty, life will go on either way. Lastly, I will take the "adult" route and bow out of this conversation before it has the opportunity to actually get "nasty".
