I have read that you get charged up to $500 if you smoke on ur balcony or patio? is this true? :confused3 Has anyone done this? i dont smoke but my husband does and he is determined that it will be fine if he does

No, not a good idea. If they catch him they will have something to say. Not worth it for one cigarette. THere are plenty of DSA (Designated Smoking Areas) around. I forgot where you are staying - sorry, you did tell me. If you remind me which resort we can make some recommendations. I smoke. Not heavily, but there are certain ciggies I like to have and you can request a room with easy access to a smoking area.

We are staying at Allstar music resort. My husband thought he could get away with it but i just showed him ur post :rotfl:

I see from ur countdown ticker that you have 1 month 4 weeks to go and i have 1 month 2weeks and 2 days to go:lovestruc we are only going for one week :sad2: so we will be home before you set off

There are plenty of smoking areas in the resorts and not just that it is not a balcony as such it is a walkway and for those non smokers it's not nice. You will normally find a smoking area not far from the entrance to the blocks and a lot of times they have benches.

We stayed at All Star Music last year. LOVED it by the way! There are only 3 DSAs at ASMu. One is right outside the main building as you exit the building to walk to the main pool. Best building location for this one is Building 1 (one of the Calypso buildings) but they are preferred rooms so if you booked standard, opt for another. The second one is near to the second pool. We had an ideal location as we were on the pool end of building 8. The third one is right at the back and we never went there.

I have the resort map with room numbers somewhere. I will have a dig. Tell your DH I will give him the heads up on the best locations for a room request. :)

I'm a sort of smoker too, gave up but still like the occasional one.
There are plenty of areas you can smoke and at DTD it seems like it was ok to smoke anywhere (I tended to tuck myself away next to an ashtray just because there are too many people/kids and i did not want to catch anyone in the crowds)

All disney resorts are now non smokng rooms and as far as i can tell this includes balcony and patio as part of your room.

Weirdly my smoking meant we got talking to a really lovely family on our last trip and have since become good friends so it has its advantages I suppose of using the smoking area.

I find that to be true too. I must say, I met some wonderful people at DSAs. This is awful, but I want to quit completely and when I gave up for a while earlier in the year, all I could think about was how I would miss socialising with the people at the DSA benches. Now that is a totally warped sense of reasoning on my part. :sad2:

We stayed at ASMu last summer and noticed a number of smoking areas with benches and parasols. One was quite near our building (Country Fair) but there were others. (Funnily enough on previous visits to ASSp I never noticed anyone smoking but now there are designated areas it was very noticable.)

ETA - There aren't any patios or balconies at ASMu, just exterior walkways to the rooms.

Stayed at all star movies which is like all star sports. Tell him you don't have a balcony or a patio there - it's a public walkway.

The smoking area at all star movies was not far from the foodcourt and always looked very sociable! There are also designated areas in parks. All clearly marked.

I'm not a smoker - have breathing problems caused by a reduced airway so like to know where they are to avoid them.

That is another reason why I would only smoke in the DSAs. I don't smoke in my house, but if I don't close the door when I go out you can smell it when you go back inside. If someone left their room door open it is very probably that it would waft into their room.

Don't worry Princess Joanna, I just need to hoist myself into the loft. I will post those room numbers and locations for you :goodvibes

I can completely understand that - the main thng I missed when I gave up smoking was the -social' aspect of it - I think it's because you are united in one bad habit ;)

OP, please tell your husband to have basic consideration for all the other people staying at the resort and use the DSAs. Thank you :)

just because a cast member doesn't catch your husband there is nothing to stop another guest reporting him, and there are a lot of anti smokers out there! just think what $500 could buy you elsewhere

I know exactly what you mean. you feel like you are missing something. I want to quit totally too and for the most part i have its just on those odd occasions where i want one and then once i have one i can go for weeks months even without another one.

Hi Princess Joanna

Just to let you know I will be getting that map down tonight and put the info on here for you and your DH. I am not home right now, but I haven't forgotten. :)The general maps on the websites never give you room numbers which makes it really difficult.

Also, when you check in, even if you do it online, ask them to show you on the map where your room is so you can see relative to the DSA where you are. If you feel you are too far away, ask if it is possible for them to put you closer to the smoking area. At ASMu, having so few DSAs you need to get into the right building (request them to add it to your reservation). Once you have that, you can play around with the room numbers if possible or necessary.

That's a good one Libby, thanks for posting. :thumbsup2

So ideally you want to be as near to the Piano Pool as possible in either building 8 or 9, otherwise if you prefer a quiet room at the back of the resort, the very back rooms of buildings 5 or 6 also look like a good location.

If you have a preferred room you will want building 1 rather than building 10. It isn't just a quick nip down the stairs there. Those buildings are spread out and quite large.

It's no problem :flower3:Do you need some room numbers? You can't actually make a request for room numbers so you are better off when you get there. I had the brainwave to give you a band of numbers, but if you can work out from the map where you want to be it is a good start. I think your DH will be surprised at how little he thinks of smoking. I don't know how you plan on structuring your days. I have a habit of jamming them so full that when we get into our hotel room we hit the shower and just drop into bed. Just ask if you need any more info. :goodvibes
