Smallest direct purchase cash contract?

We are looking at buying a small direct purchase contract for cash so that my kids that are grown now can have the discounts on AP's etc. Does anyone know what the smallest number of points are that you can purchase direct for cash? We already own quite a few points (could always use more as I have chronic addonitis!) so this would not be an initial purchase.

Thanks in advance for the help and the information!!

Smallest add-on is 25.

There have been reports of members being told 50 points as an add-on for Copper Creek.

I think the OP wants it titled differently than their other contract(s) to allow current non members to take advantage of the discounts. If so I believe the smallest they allow for a new master contract (which is what's required for it to be titled differently) is 50 points

I agree with CMNJ. If the contract is titled differnetly, then it's a separate membership and the minimum is 50 points. How many kids do you have and how much value will you get from this? You're going to pay about a $3,000 premium to purchase direct. Could you re-title one of your own smaller contracts?

I guess we are looking at getting a second master contract. We had talked to our guide about this a year or so ago and he did not say we would need a second master contract so I would have to check on that. We have been thinking about adding on in the resale market, but then the kids don't get the discount on annual passes. But I am now thinking we need to run the numbers....it may be better just to help them with the AP's than add them to the contract at direct prices. Thank you everyone for your responses!

I am about to add on at new CCV and was wondering if it would be worth it to put my DDs-18 names on it too so they can get membership cards. It would have to be new membership then since not deeded the same as our others. New members must buy 75 at CCV, I do believe. Other resorts was 50.

Someone can answer this better than I can, but can they buy a 25 point contract as husband and wife and then later either transfer to the kids or add their names to the title? Does the transfer removed the "qualified" status of the points?

If you switch names from you to kids, then it will be re deeded and lose direct contract perks as if a resale (gifted to family but still same as resale I think)... I am pretty sure. Adding names, I am not sure about that. I did ask, a CM, at the member lounge how we could get our kids a membership card and she said to add them to deed and would be costs. Would need closing company or lawyer or something.

To retitle the contract (to add the children on) would cost some money but from what I've read only a few hundred dollars. Not sure how that works if it was an add on to a current membership vs a master contract. It would then become a separate membership as it was titled differently. From what I have read a gratuitous transfer still has to go through ROFR but is a formality and the transfer would maintain direct status. Not sure if there would be any waiting period after buying before they'd allow you to do a gratuitous transfer/retitle but it might be an option if someone wanted to go through the trouble and wasn't in a hurry

Gratuitious transfers would retain all benefits that they had when the transfer was done.

Kathy is correct - as long as you don't have an outstanding loan on the contract - you can add family or gift to them and the contract will retain all its original benefits.

It will have to be a separate contract if it's titled differently. There have been a couple of reports of them saying they would sell 25 stand alone recently at some of the resorts where points are more plentiful. That's what I'd pursue first. Second, one could buy the 25 add on (but not at CCV) and then change the title, it can be done for under $50 if one does it themselves. I'd use this leverage trying to get them to do the 25 retail.

problem with having 25 points in a separate contract is that they're not so easily usable. You can't combine them with your other contracts to make a reservation -- so they'd either have to be transferred into your main account, but that means you'd have to call MS to make your reservations...which can be problematic for certain types of reservations.

Honestly -- the cheapest way to accomplish what you want is to just retitle all of your deeds.

And while you're at it, if you really wanted to get fancy, you could have the DVC property transferred to a family trust in order to avoid probate down the road. As long as the children are named beneficiaries, they should get member benefits too. It is my understanding that member cards will be issued in the name of those designated in the trust as the current beneficial owners of the trust property. This option is more complicated upfront and will likely require an estate planning attorney.
