My son is a self-professed Small World fanatic, having ridden the WDW ride dozens of times. In January, we are heading to California to hit DL for the first time, and it would crush him if it is closed. My concern is they will close it to remove the holiday decorations. We will be there January 17-20.

Sorry - my questions are whether anyone knows when it will go down to remove the decorations and for how long?

I was there just after MLK day (Jan 19 I think) at the start of this year for a week, and it had just closed for the removal of holiday overlay and refurbishment. Your best bet is to wait for the refurb schedule for that period to come out, which should be in the next few weeks - hopefully you get to ride it!

Unforch, it is hard to say. With the Xmas going through Jan 8th though, I would brace myself that it might not be open. I really hope it open for your sake though. My kids are more bummed about Matterhorn, and there is NO hope it will be open when were are there. You have hope at least!:thumbsup2

This season because the Holiday extends to the 8th as the PP noted it is likely to change. HMH will probably go down on the 9th and may take until the 18th-20th. Then after MLK weekend they will close IASW to remove it's overlay for at leasta week.

In a link someone posted a while ago which was sent to international travel agents it has the IASW closure dates as January 23rd to February 2nd. That link's data looked pretty good but not perfect.

Thank you for that last post and the hope. Another question is what do they do with the projection show during a rehab? Do they still do it on the front, and is the front operational even though the ride is closed (this would provide some solace).

It's it hard to say. Sometime since they close the ride for the layover, same goes for HM too, they do some other work. Also last January The Magic, The Memories and You! didn't start until after this time, so there isn't a history of how it's effected. The official Calendar may be the first indication of what happens then and MMY doesn't show up quickly on it.

The absence of HMH overlay removal was most noticable, from that link.

That was definately odd since it's a big and regular closure to skip over. Also I think it listed TSMM which didn't happen and doesn't have BTMRR.

So I e-mailed Disneyland and they were kind enough to write back and inform me that IASW will be open through 1/22 - they are taking down the holiday decor from 1/23 to 2/2. Interestingly, this coincides with those rumored dates that have been posted. Anyway, my son is very excited again!

The dates listed were from a list given to travel agents. Though you could consider it a "rumor" since its not posted on Disney's site yet, but the site calendar doesn't go out that far.

I thought it was odd that one wasn't listed either. I don't remember if it still listed the TSMM one, but may have been generated before they removed the refurb from the schedule. And I think BTMRR was NOT a scheduled refurb, it wasn't even on the Disney schedule until a week ago.

Looks like the Matterhorn and Grizzly River Rapids will be closed when I go.

Too bad, I haven't been since I was 7 and was looking forward to the Matterhorn. Grizzly River Rapids, not so sad about since I don't really like getting wet.

Matterhorn is closed half the year for a lengthy refurb. I also would anticipate they may add more refurbs.
