What little things make you smile inside? A few of mine:

Sheets fresh from the dryer.

A houseful of giggling teenagers.

Watching the dog stretch after her nap.

Kicking off the shoes after a long day.

Chocolate.

that small window of time after you've totally cleaned the house, but before the kids get home and trash it.

during a fantastic thunder and lightning storm

right after the alarm goes off, but before the snooze alarm sounds when you lay in bed and cuddle with your sweetie

When the only thing left to do before Christmas is the baking of the Christmas cookies

A clean house.

The changing of seasons.

Reading in bed while it's raining outside.

The smell of goodies baking in the oven.

Watching my dog sleep.

A gift for no reason.

Finding something you need on sale.

Stepping onto Main Street on the first day of your trip

Toll house cookie dough.

Summer mornings, right around 6:30 am.

Sunday afternoons when we have absolutely nothing to do. very rare nowadays.

Watching the Wizard of Oz, over and over.

Watching my DD sleep. Even at 15 my heart melts when I watch her sleep.

When the only thing left to do before Christmas is the baking of the Christmas cookies

My wife goes through 50 pounds of flour and 25 pounds of sugar doing her Christmas cookies, so in our household, it's just AFTER the Christmas cookies have been baked, and you can start doing EVERYTHING else!

As for small pleasure.....nappng in my Lazyboy.

The fact that right now my fat bunny is snoozing with his chin on my foot, wedged between my ankles :cloud9:

The yummy smell of crock pot stew when I walk in the door after a long day at work

The sight and smell of a freshly cut lawn

Hot shower that's just right with both temperature and water pressure

The first bite of cereal, before milk makes the rest soggy

Fresh pillowcase and sheets to fall asleep on

Perfect coffee.
Cozy sweatshirts.
The smell of burning firewood.
Christmas in general.
Summer nights.
Going to the beach in the middle of January.

The first sip of hot coffee in the morning.
A chortling/giggling baby.
Reading in my favorite chair during a thunderstorm with a cup of tea.
The smell of PineSol in the house.
A handwritten letter in the mail.
Taking a nap in the middle of the day when everything is clean and the windows are open.
Knowing the house is working for me: Laundry in the washer and dryer; food in the oven or slow cooker; bread in the bread machine; dishwasher running.

Watching my DD sleep. Even at 15 my heart melts when I watch her sleep.

I second this, however my DD is 3.

We moved in June, and spent the better part of summer being lazy and not enforcing bedtime, letting her sleep with us, letting her watch "one more show," and allowing her to go to bed well past what she should.

We just started back on a bedtime routine this week, a routine we used to do,a nd that she was used to, and amazingly we haven;t had a single issue. She goes to sleep in her room, and has stayed in her bed ALL NIGHT. Even last night I heard her wake up int he middle of the night, and she was in the hall, but grabbed my hand and walked back into her room, where I sang her a few songs, rubbed her back, and she was back asleep.

Anyway, the nights I have put her to bed this week (switching with the hubster) with our new routine, I have noticed how beautiful it is just to watch the process of her falling asleep. I am so glad she did not inherit my night owl tendacies. It takes me over an hour to fall asleep, once I am lying there in bed, but for her, after our bedtime stories, she will close her eyes, roll over, and within 15 mins she is out. I am amazed.

I asked DW how she would answer this and she said "You are."

I'm not quite sure how to interpret that? :confused3
