Hello I have recently begun to deal with some painful mobility issues involving my left hip and a bulging disc in my neck. So far physical therapy is providing only limited relief and my doctor has yet to approve surgery.

Oddly I have no trouble walking, in fact the more I move the better I actually do. Standing, however, for any length of time becomes unbearable. I have been able to compensate at work by placing a stool in my exam rooms and surgery suites and so far it seems to be bearable. I keep a tennis ball handy to massage my neck and that helps a lot as well. The problem is my wife and I have a trip planned in Sept for our 25th wedding anniversary and I am concerned how this will affect her enjoyment.

I understand Disney encourages those with mobility issues to use a wheelchair but I just feel like that is way more than I really need and having to push one around empty most of the day will cause more problems than it cures.

Has anyone ever used, or have thoughts on using a small folding chair or one of those three legged camp stools to sit on while in line? Not an ideal solution I know, I am sure there will be discomfort involved but it seems like a far simpler solution than a wheelchair only to be used while in line for rides. My concern is what to do with the chair while on the rides.

The only other option I can think of is having my wife wait in line and I jump the queue when she gets close to the front. This kind of feels like missing the point of having an anniversary trip together and I also can't imagine how much attitude I would get trying to pass people in line.

Any thoughts or advice appreciated, thank you

Folding chairs are on the prohibited items list and most lines are such that it would be nearly impossible to rejoin your wife as she nears the front.

Rather than a wheelchair, consider a rollator which could be used as a seat in line.

Chairs are generally not allowed. Have you looked into rollator? This has been the solution for my sister and mom for years. My mom used to be able to go all day, but could not stand in place without at least leaning on something. The rollator made it so she could push it without having to carry anything.

You can can't bring chair into the park now I have seen them and I have seen CM ask people not to use them. I have seen Cains with sets on them and there is some debate on if they are allowed to be used as sets ( I have seen CM ask people not to use them, and I have seen one guest fall out and break there arm ( yes her arm was broken and do not ask how I know but you can use your inmagination )

a few things you can do if you do not want to rent a wheel char you ge get a roller

or

most lines are slow moving if you leave just a little room between you and the guest infant of you, ( like 12 to 18 inches) this way you can walk , march in place or do side steps, but the lines tend to stop for a minute or 2 then move 10 feet, stop for a minute or two move 10 feet.

oh and happy anniversary

Thanks everyone, I had no idea chairs were prohibited. If things do not improve I will likely have to consider the rollator, however the idea of trying to create a small amount of space to move and maybe do some small movement mobility exercises might be sufficient.

I assume they will allow me to carry my tennis ball?

oh and happy anniversary

Thank you!
I have brought some stress balls Yo Yo in the parks with no question asked

here is the list of things you can not bring into the park with you, folding chairs is number 14 ( I think)

I have gone to Disney after surgery for herniated disks and used a rollator. It was super handy. I don't think a line ever stopped long enough that I sat on it then but I sat on it waiting for the Halloween party parade and it was a lifesaver. I would have been in agony sitting unsupported on the ground or standing that long. Also sat on it during Fantasmic. Bleacher seats are killer too. It was just generally nice to have with me most of the time. I have a completely numb leg so I needed it for support too. Sadly the leg is still and probably will forever be numb but I have adapted

Happy Anniversary! Waving to you from year 30 over here! :)

I agree with everyone else - the Rollator is the way to go. Make sure that you have it adjusted properly for your height - because you won't need it really for stability, but only to sit when you need a seat (something a LOT of us around here can understand), it should actually roll fairly easily for you, and you should not find yourself too fatigued from pushing it. Bonus extra: many of them have a small basket or pouch underneath the seat that can be used for storage. :)

You may want to take along the contact info for an ECV vendor in Orlando, just in case the Rollator is not enough. Remember that the *average* Guest walks between 5 & 10 miles PER DAY at WDW - so if you realize early on that the Rollator is just not enough, don't hesitate to rent and use an ECV. It's just a tool you will utilize to fully maximize and enjoy your time in the Parks with your beautiful wife!
