I am a new DVC member and am trying to understand how small contracts work. I have 220 points at BLT. If I were to purchase a small contract of 25 points at, say, AKV, how does the booking window work?

My guess is that you can only book at AKV for 1 or 2 nights up to 25 points at the 11 month window. To use the BLT points at AKV, you would need to wait until the 7 month mark to book additional nights at AKV.

Am I understanding this correctly?

Thank you.

accurate enough.

but what some people do is add-on 25 pts at AKV so that every 3 years, they can book an AKV value studio for 7 nights at the 11 month window (around 75 pts in early december). they are still only using AKV points but when you add up banked, current and borrowed AKV pts, you get a more usable number.

(but yeah, you can't use a small AKV contract to allow you to jump ahead of AKV owners with your BLT points to book AKV at 11 months. wouldn't be fair.)

Your understanding is correct: If you add on a small 25-point contract from a new "home resort", those points could not be applied to a reservation at another resort until the 7-month window.

Some DVCers use their small contracts for split stays between their two home resorts. For example, at the 11-month window they will book 5 nights at BLT, and then 2 additional nights at AKV. Other DVCers use the bank, borrow, and use approach to get maximum use out of the small contract. Every three years you'll have 75 points, which will get a week during the Choice season in a Value view studio, or 5 nights in a Savanna view studio during dream season. We have all of our points at BLT, but we know that we'll want to spend some trips at AKV, too. I'm thinking of adding a small AKV contract so I can book a stay at the 11-month window every three years.

Have fun!
