A little off topic, but a quick delish alternative. I got this from Rachael Ray - very easy.
Unwrap some caramels. Slightly melt them in small saucer in microwave. Add some milk, half & half, heavy cream, or like I did - some evaporated milk. Stir. Pop in microwave for a few more seconds, stir again. Cut up some apples into wedges and dip in the sauce. VERY good.
I love caramel apples. It doesn't matter if they have nuts or not. I'll take whatever I can get. I'm not one of those people who bites into the apple though. I have to cut it. I don't know why I just do.
Lucas, that was a great tip about the caramel dipping sauce. I think i'll give that one a try.
I love the bionic apples that are huge and have like half an inch of caramel on them and a ton of pecans. I don't like those those little happy apple ones.
I *love* caramel apples! I like to get apples from Marshall's in Mackinac City, MI. They use Granny Smith apples...covered in caramel and then you can select from all sorts of other things...my favs are white/milk/dark chocolate drizzled over the caramel and white choc with choc chips. DH's favorite is plain caramel covered with cashews.
ETA: Forgot to say that I cut them up with my Pampered Chef apple corer/slicer and a knife...and then I eat them with a fork. I've got a porcelain veneer on my front tooth so there's no way I would bite into a caramel apple!
