Some days I struggle to think of a topic and today I thought of two.

Since this poll has to do with working the polls, I decided not to wait until tomorrow, because anybody working the polls will probably be up and out of their house before I get the poll up and running.

So....I ask.....are you working the polls tomorrow?

For Me.....I am not.
My mom used to, and she loved it. The only reason why she stopped is because my step-dad had Alzheimer's and it was just to expensive for her to get a care giver for the day.
Now that he has passed away, she sometimes thinks to start doing it again, but then she thinks she would get to tired after such a long day - she is 75 years old.

*Inspiration for today's 2nd poll is several of our patients telling me they are working the polls tomorrow. So, this got me thinking and wondering how many of you are also working the polls tomorrow.
For those that are doing this - thank you!

Nope, did it once, my parents did it every year (out of civic duty and not the small amount of money they got - I did it for the money and it was a LONG day).

No. I’ve thought about it a few different years but I’ve never gone thru with it.

No, I have not worked the polls in the past and don't forsee that in my future.

I have a question here, Sandy. Normally, do you think of your polls the morning of your posting your poll, or the night (or some other time) before the poll of the day? I know it's a lot of thought, a lot of work. And much appreciated.

My BFF has been working the polls for years but not in my immediate area. She loves it. :)

Thank you for the appreciation :goodvibes
They are fun to do. I wish I had more time to check in during the day to interact with the polls, but my schedule doesn’t allow it very often.

To answer your question…..every day is different. Some mornings I lay in bed for 10 minutes thinking of a topic. Some nights I think of one and write it down by my tablet before I go to bed for the morning. I’ll be honest, there are some mornings where I have a mental block and struggle to think of a topic - luckily something eventually pops into my head and I go with it.

Tomorrow will be an easy topic since it’s Election Day 🙂👍🏼

Well, you do a pretty darn good interaction. Always nice to see you pop in with additional questions and/or answers to some of the posters.

You do make them interesting every day, so your methods are working well.

No, used to. I always enjoyed it but my new area has an over abundance of workers so they don’t need workers.

I dont .but I'd like to put in a word of appreciation for those who do. We vote at a library near our home. Our setup is so well staffed and trained it is such a pleasure to go there. Smiles all around, and a thank you at every turn. They are so efficient , voting is a "walk-on" in Disney park parlance.

I would love to, and might in 2024. But this year I'm not yet comfortable with hordes of people (Covid, RSV, flu all surging in my area), so I decided to pass. Sending so much respect and appreciation to those who do.

I have not, but we thought about it now that we are retired. But with early voting, mail in ballots and drop boxes, there are far fewer physical polling places any more. They don't seem to need as many people.

My wife did it once. She got paid a bonus because she was fluent in another language and that she served as an inspector. But I was in between jobs and had to take of our kid that Tuesday, in addition to driving her to all the meetings as well as picking up the ballots that were kept sealed in our home and transported to the polling place. But she'd never done it before and then found out that there was some sort of tradition that the inspector has to buy everyone dinner, although it was just supposed to be a bucket of fried chicken for about the 4 or so people there. And it was supposed to be a bucket of KFC with biscuits, and they wanted white and dark meat. Somehow I got recruited to bring that in because I dropped my wife off. They had something like two parking passes for the school site, and my wife let other workers have them. But in the end I just went to our closest KFC and ordered something like 6 Tuesday leg & thigh specials (they put them in a bucket) and a la carte biscuits. And somehow I ended up paying for it. I don't think they complained though.

Once I kind of ended up doing things at the polls even though I wasn't trained and wasn't even of voting age. It's kind of hard to explain what it was, but they were short on people and just took whatever help they could get and roped me into it when I was a party observer. I wasn't doing anything terribly complicated - just telling voters how to drop their ballots in a collection box and handing them those little stickers. But if I did anything illegal, it's well past the statute of limitations. But I didn't affect anyone's vote, so there's that.

Thank you Dan!
This means a lot to me :goodvibes

I never have worked the polls, but my late Mother did for years. I think she was a precinct captain toward the end of her serving. I look forward to seeing the poll workers at our polling place tonight. It’s usually the same group and you get to know them.

No, and I do know people who have done or still do it.
